Food help!

We're going to our annual Hard Cider Tasting Party tomorrow.  It's at a bachelor's house and I know he won't have anything besides Doritos and Bugles.  What goes with hard cider?  I'm willing to make a couple of things to take - - they just can't involve a ton of prep since this is for tomorrow around noonish and I'm running out of time.  I was thinking an app and a dessert.
Someone else is bringing cheese and bread.
4th of July theme is not necessary, but we are planning on watching the France vs. Germany game - - so French or red, white and blue theme would work.  :)
Any suggestions?

Re: Food help!

  • I'm big on bringing things dipped in Choc.  I usually do white for the 4th and sprinkle with red and blue sugar.  I'm making a tray of dipped strawberries, pretzels and small squares of rice krispie treats.

For apps I like potato skins with bacon and cheese.

  • The first thing that jumped into my head was beer, cheese and brats :)

Beer, cheese and brat soup...if soup is too much of a production, could do cut up brats with other stuff to dip and have a beer cheese dip. Call it fondue for that Francophile spin.

No specific recipe, but you can probably troll some of the big recipe sites and find some quickish recipes.

Dessert, I usually just hit up a bakery and be done ;)...or ice cream sandwiches.

They aren't French or 4th, but they are simple and tasty.

Pepperoni bites- take a 1/4 a string cheese stick, 3 pepperoni, and wrap in half a biscuit, stick in a cake pan.  1 can of biscuit will fill 1 pan.  brush on a little olive oil and a mix of Italian seasoning and parm cheese. Bake according to package serve with pizza sauce

I have a bunch of other things with crescent rolls if you want.  A sausage and cream cheese one that's good.  One that's a bunch of deli meats and cheese baked in a 9x13 to make more of a sandwich.

I actually did a huge platter of the pepperoni bites, mozz sticks, and the sausage roll for Bunco and it was gone.  I called it redneck tapas.

This is my go to dessert

Well, I don't know what happened to dessert.

    1 tube of saltine crackers
2 sticks of butter or margarine
    3/4 cup of brown sugar
    12 ounces of chocolate chips
1 cup of chopped pecans (optional)

    Preheat oven to 400.
Butter a cookie sheet with sides.  Cover the sheet with crackers.
Melt 2 sticks of butter in a pan.
Add brown sugar and boil for 3 minutes (no longer).
Pour over crackers and bake at 400 for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over top.  Spread chcolate once melted.
Sprinkle chopped pecans over top and smash in a little.
Put in freezer until hard.  Then break or cut apart

    I love hard cider.

Can you do a different cheese?  like brie with crackers?

What about a salad that has things like fruit and walnuts?  like this:  http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/spinach-salad-with-strawberry-vinaigrette

My favorite thing to whip up when I have no time is chocolate chip dip.  So easy - seriously less than 5 minutes to throw together.  And I always have the stuff to make it.  Throw it in the fridge until you're ready to go.

I serve with pretzel rods, animal crackers and graham crackers.

I double this recipe for a party type situation:
