Yellow wedding dress at a winter wedding?

My FI and I have just booked our venue for the 11th of December 2015, and giving wear we live, it will probably be very snowy at that time of year, so it will be very wintery looking. We've already decided our colours are going to be royal blue, bright yellow and white, and I really really want to wear a bright, sunshine yellow wedding dress, but my mother and sister think it's ridiculous, and says I should just wear white, given the time of year. I desperately want to wear yellow, but it means a lot to me that I wear a dress that my mother likes and she wants to pay for it. Should I just white white, or wear yellow and run the risk of having to pay for it myself (which isn't actually a problem) and having my mother hate it?

Wear whatever you want, but be prepared to pay for it. You might get some strange looks (I wouldn't hate on it at all, but just be surprised to see a bright yellow dress at a snowy December wedding), but it's really important that you love your dress and feel confident!

Yeah, I wouldn't expect bright yellow at wintery wedding, but one of the few things a bride gets to yell, "It's my day!" about is her dress - as long as she is paying for it herself.

If you want a yellow dress, go buy yourself a yellow dress.

My first thought was yellow and snow = dog pee.
I'm sure it will be beautiful, but I'm just not a fan of yellow with snow...

Just pay for your own yellow dress. The good news is that if you don't have a big budget and you want color, bridesmaids' dresses are a great option. That's what I did (hot pink).

Have you considered a gold dress?  That could look really beautiful for a winter wedding.

No harm in looking to see if you can find a yellow dress that you like and you can pay for. But keep your options open and try on white/ivory dresses too. You may surprise yourself and fall in love with a a white/ivory dress. But then again, if you find a the right yellow dress, your mom may end up loving it and coming to your side. I would just hate to see you limit your options and get a yellow dress that doesn't give you that special feeling of "this is my dress" because you have your mind set to yellow. Remember, you can always pull in yellow to your dress with a sash, accessories (don't forget shoes) and your flowers. If you do find a yellow dress, I would probably stay away from the BM having the same shade of yellow or have them in a different color totally.

Wear whatever you want to.  There is no rule that says you can't wear a yellow dress in the winter or that a bride can't wear yellow.  It is your day and you get to choose what you want to wear.

Thanks guys; @CrazyCatLady3 I really hate the colour gold, so its definitely not an option. Weird I know, seeing as my favourite colour is yellow. @Erikan73 Honestly the main reason I'm not going for white is because most shades of white washes me out a lot, and a look horrible in it. I have really pale kind of pink skin and it makes my face look grey. So it would be just as hard for me to find a white or off-white dress that didn't make me look horrendous as any kind of yellow at all.

I think a bride should wear what she loves to her wedding: something that makes her feel beautiful. Why don't you start looking for a yellow dress that looks gorgeous on you and then show your mother? If white/ivory truly wash you out and bright yellow is great with your skin, perhaps seeing that will help your family understand why you want a yellow dress. I don't see any reason why season should impact the color you wear. Yellow is a beautiful color any time of the year and the contrast against white snow would be lovely.

FWIW, if you're wearing a bright yellow dress I think some bling would play in nicely.

A yellow dress with royal blue to me screams Belle and Beauty & the Beast. I don't know if that's what you're going for but people will probably be thinking it.
