Let's Talk About YouTube

So I am a confessed YouTube addict.

I love watching daily vlogs, any videos to do with makeup, and this one awesome a cappella dude and his wife. 

Here are my favorite YouTubers:

EssieButton - Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle. She's a Canadian girl living in London with her boyfriend. Their vlog channel is also really good (EssieButtonVlogs)!

ItsJudysLife - Judy is a beauty guru, but I watch her daily vlogs instead of her beauty videos. She has a beautiful family and I've been watching for over a year now. It's so awesome seeing their kids grow up. 

CaseyNeistat - Daily vlogs. FI is friends with Casey and they work in the same building, so I really watch these because FI occasionally appears in the vlogs. Casey seems like a cool dude, and his life is crazy. His wife and his two kids are great, too.

Amelia Liana - Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle. Amelia is friends with Essie, and they tend to be quite similar, so I guess I just like their style of videos. Amelia is also quite wealthy, so I enjoy drooling over her videos when she travels throughout Europe.

BooksandQuills - Books! Sanne is a totally cool literary chick and I adore her book reviews.

Peter Hollens - A capella covers of popular songs. Peter and his wife have stunning voices. He does a lot of collaborations with other incredible independent artists, and I love hearing what they come up with.

So, who are your favorite YouTubers? If you don't have any, what kind of things do you usually search YouTube for?

H watches a ton of youtube. The only thing he's ever made me watch that I enjoyed was Cooking  Hostile. Probably won't be amusing unless you like Pantera.

I have to admit I don't get the appeal. I get that vlogging is video blogging, but I actually much prefer to read blogs at my own pace than sit through a video. 

I do use YouTube to look up music videos or bands people suggest to me. DH likes pulling up funny clips from TV shows or movies. 

One thing I thought was really cool, as a fan of ballet- once this professional company live-broadcast a rehearsal for their upcoming performance. I was completely sucked in.

I find her very annoying, but still kind of funny - graveyardgirl (spelt all fucked up, but i think it autopopulates). She does alot of makeup ones and 'does this thing really work' is like my all time favourite thing to watch. Basically testing as seen on TV stuff. And I think shes expanded more now, but those are the only ones I watch of hers.

I watched her for a bit! She is quite funny, but like you said, can definitely be annoying. I follow her on Instagram still.

I fucking love grav3yardgirl. I also watch a ton of ASMR videos. And there's one I found recently, Trish...something. TrishFish...something about fish. I can't stop watching her, I don't know why. She's kind of vapid and goofy but...there's something appealing there.

SuperGirl is awesome too. Oh and um fuck I forgot her name but just "My Drunk Kitchen" and then watch everything she does.

I also love FleurdeForce. She's a british beauty "guru" but she also vlogs every other month on her vlog channel-I actually prefer her vlogs! She vlogs all the travel opportunities she gets, but also her family life- she lives in the countryside (from what I can tell) with her husband and 3 dogs. They're quite adorable.

If SO comes home and I'm watching her he just immediately recognizes her voice and is like 'ARGHH' haha. I think I've gotten used to the annoyingness, and just accepted shes kind of a weirdo, and I don't mind it anymore.

 

I love my drunk kitchen. I also remember watching some interesting guys, who seemed the american equivalent of Red Green. They tested store brands vs name brands (food, clothing, etc) and it was pretty funny. I like testing shows I guess?

I don't really watch YouTube unless I am trying to find a specific video clip.  Only then may I be dragged into watching tons of puppy videos, bloopers, or other cute/funny things.  But I don't have a particular vlog I follow.

H loves cars and watches tons of car videos.  I am sure he follows some people but no idea who they may be.

I love ItsJudysLife  but I watch her beauty vlog more which is ItsJudyTime. I also like Carli Bybel and HelloHannahCho.

My 2 year old son is obsessed with YouTube. He loves watching all those Thomas the Train videos that are made using the actual toys versus the animated show. He also watches this Australian family who makes videos of their unboxing of Thomas the Train sets.

I mostly watch video game play throughs on you tube. I do it at work when I am doing mindless tasks, like folding letters and stuffing envelopes. Typically I watch people in the Yogscast, especially Hannah, Kim and sometimes Sips, depending on what he is playing. I also really enjoyed Dishonorable Dimayo's play through of Don't Starve: Reign of Giants.

The only other thing I watch every week is Wil Wheaton's Tabletop on the Geek and Sundry channel because I love board games and can get an idea if a game would be good for DH and I by watching them play.

I care more about the interesting commentary in the videos since I can't always actually watch the videos. Sometimes I just listen, so I am picky about who is interesting enough to just listen to in the background.

I watch Crash Course. I've got H hooked on it now, and we watched World History I, Literature, and U.S. History in the last two weeks. We're now working on World History II.

So... actually... having a lightbulb moment here. 

In the introductions thread a few of us said our dream jobs would be in travel. So, in theory, I could make videos of me and DH when we're traveling and upload them to YouTube and TravelChannel will discover us and we'll be the Next Big Thing?

Dream job here I come!

There is a dude who essentially does this(clicky). I've only watched a few of his videos, but he is apparently REALLY popular. LIVE THE DREAM!

I usually watch parody music videos. My favorite is notliterally, especially their Harry Potter themed songs. I also watched a bunch of full-length musicals from StarKid. Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier is like Wicked meets Aladdin and it's fucking amazing. The Very Potter trilogy is funny too.

Hannah Hart!! She's great. I admittedly watch too much YouTube. However, FI and I love Rhett and Link's Good Mythical Morning when we get ready in the morning.

If were talking make up Tati is by far my favorite. I watch graveyardgirl but I have to fast forward a lot, I'm just not a fan of the inside joke stuff all the time (sippy sippy, etc). 

If I watching to pass time I'll usually find something on watchmojo.

I don't.  Like @thisismynickname, I prefer reading a blog. A big part of that is because H and I don't have internet at our house.  We just use our phones and we have limited data, which videos suck incredibly fast. 

Additionally, I can read a blog at my own pace and I can skim if I get to an un-interesting part. That's hard to do with a video. H watches videos of people explaining how to do various things and I get SO bored.  I just want to yell at the stupid guy "get to the interesting part where you're actually talking about interesting stuff we want to learn!  Stop talking about whatever you did last week or how cool this piece of equipment is!" 

Beyond a few actual TV shows that I enjoy, I don't watch much in the way of videos. I can read much faster than I can watch a video. I can skim my twitter to get the news much faster than watching a broadcast.  Even at work, where I have unlimited internet, I rarely watch videos.  Videos will start to autoplay when I click links from Twitter, and I almost always cancel them.  I much prefer reading.

Check out Scott Bradlee and his band, Postmodern Jukebox! It's an extremely talented guy who started out by making YouTube videos in his apartment a few years ago and now fills concert halls worldwide - a nice YouTube success story! Their music concept is to take today's hits and transform them into "vintage" arrangements - I don't think I'm explaining it very well so I'm just gonna leave some examples:

Haha I had the same thought @justsie ! We saw them in concert a few weeks ago and I briefly considered making a poster asking them to play at our wedding
