Thurman's Mansiona at the Salt Lick

Has anyone ever been to a wedding here?  It is one of the venues I am deciding between and the only thing holding me back is that you can't bring in your own caterer.  They have options other than the bbq dinner, but I'm just not sure how well they would cook non-bbq type food.  Any advice would be appreciated :)

    We are doing our rehearsal dinner at the Salt Lick (looked at Thurman's Mansion but decided on the Pavillion area instead).  They indicated to us that we could import food from the Mandolas Italian restaurant nearby -- I can't think of the actual name of it right now.  Maybe the rule is different for weddings, but we have been to dinner at the Italian restaurant and really enjoyed it.  In our case, we want the whole BBQ/Salt Lick experience for our RD, but I can definitely understand not wanting that for a wedding and wanting to know what the food is going to taste like.  The woman that FI dealt with (Lisa?) was super nice and he had a long list of questions that she worked through with him over the course of several weeks time.  Is there any chance they can let you sample some of their non-BBQ food before you sign a contract?  I thought the Mansion area looked like a beautiful place to have a wedding.

    I have been to one wedding several years ago. The Mansion is so pretty, they did serve bbq, but you just can't beat Salt Like for great bbq - grooms cake was the peach cobber... yum.

    Mandolas Restaurant is Trattoria Laciena I believe.

    Salt Lick ROCKS though! It was way out of our price range though.

    Lucky! Go with the Salt Lick BBQ it is the best in the world! your guests will be so psyched to get such awesome food. We wanted to do BBQ but Salt Lick was not available and not allowed to cater our wedding at Laguna Gloria. I would be so disappointed if someone had their wedding at the Salt Lick and then we didn't get to eat BBQ!

    I'm a wedding photographer here in Austin and Thurman Mansion is one of my favorite Hill Country venues.  The beautiful interior of the mansion and the great backdrop of the vineyard make for great photos.  I have at least a half dozen images on my website from Thurman weddings to give you an idea what it looks like at decked out.
