Lurking

for those of you who are engaged/married...how long did you lurk on the knot before getting engaged?  sometimes i kind of feel wierd for looking on wedding sites when i'm not even engaged.  although, i am just keeping it to the boards (not looking at dresses or other ideas).

Lurking? or Knot before getting engaged?

I didn't really lurk at all (clearly I didn't read any rules!!).

I started knotting about 3 months before we got engaged because I knew it was imminent.

I actually wish I had started knotting earlier. I went through one period of time where I think the NEY girls would have made me feel more patient.

I lurked for about a month.  Then I posted for about 8 months before the proposal.

Dear god, I've been here for almost a year....eep

    You bet ; )

No, it's because I would have had people in the same boat as I was to talk to. I had a bunch of friends in short relationships get engaged before we did (and while that doesn't matter) it would have helped to be hearing it from you guys instead of... when are you going to get engaged 9000x.

I joined a long time before the proposal. I started posting when I moved in with DH (then BF, obviously) and thought the proposal would be coming much faster than it did.

I got flamed and people were mean to me, so I called them all meanies and left for a year or something. Cry

Then, I started posting in the spring before DH proposed at the end of summer.

Oh yeah my first post was like "should I ask my bridesmaids the minute I get engaged?"  I didn't lurk at all.  People just laughed at me.  Surprised

I lurked a bit.  I joined to help with my MOH's wedding (before I was engaged and I was her MOH.)  She was not very good at coming up with inspirations pictures to show her vendors what she wanted, so I did that for her.  I had to join in order to send her pictures via the knot.

I think he proposed a couple of weeks after I made my 1st post.  And I honestly didn't think we would be getting engaged for some time.

I started posting about six months before he proposed, because he had made it pretty clear that he'd be proposing within the year. I was also a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding (two months to go!), so I was on here helping her look for ideas as well.

I came on TK once a friend who had been dating his GF of 4 months proposed. I figured if he proposed maybe FI (BF at time) would too..and that was two years ago. I'd look at stuff once in a great while but didn't start lurking the boards and posting until 8 months before the proposal.

My first post was on my local and I asked if anyone knew of any venues that allowed off site catering. I've been on NEY ever since and have just this week started going on my local more often

    3-4 months and counting...

Though seriously, I'd say it's likely to be around a year, give or take a few months.  He plans on buying the ring toward the end of the summer, and I have no idea when he'll ask.  Sometime between this fall and the end of next summer.

I originally signed up for the site a year ago when my roommate was trying to get her BF to propose... we were looking at stuff for her hypothetical wedding (she had a whole notebook of magazine clippings... she could have used a talking to by this board for her BSC behavior).

I didn't.  I joined TK years ago while planning my first wedding (joined after he proposed).  I came back on and to NEY a few months before FI asked because I knew it would happen sometime as we have talked a lot about our futures together from very early on.

Note: I have no idea why it says I joined TK in March of 09... perhaps something goofed when they redid the site?  I definitely joined in 04/05 the first time.  Oh well.

I joined as a bridesmaid--another bridesmaid who got married two years ago suggested this site for ideas. (As a group of BMs we picked out dresses and designed save-the-dates and centerpieces because the bride didn't have time--she's a doctor.)

I started posting a couple months ago when BF started indicating he will likely propose this year. I'm glad I did, because these ladies are great at keeping me sane when I start getting a little wedding fever. Also, I just love message boards (ever since good ol' Prodigy in the '80s).

I joined in May for kind of the same reasons I've seen some others listed, I feel the proposal is coming soon (we talk about getting married all the time and for Valentine's Day he gave me a necklace that belonged to his late mother - a necklace she wore almost every day).  I haven't had many posts, but I certainly have enjoyed reading what everyone has to say - a lot of questions have been answered before I could even think to pose them.

I lurked for a day or two. Posted with my e-mail address, whoops. Then got my current SN. Sapphire smacked me around, but I guess I wasn't a total douche, so it was ok. Whenever I read my intro post, I think I sound like a tool. I was on here for 2 months before he proposed. Honestly, the ladies on here calmed me way down. I heart them for it.

I've been on here about 6 or 7 months. I joined because a lot of my friends are getting married and we were all looking for ideas for their weddings. And then BF started talking about getting married so I just stuck around.

I signed up in August of last year because I wasn't working all summer and got bored. Ok, real reason? I was BSC and had major wedding fever. I think I posted responses on a couple threads but mostly lurked for the first 2 or 3 months. We got engaged in December.

ETA: I had recently been hired as a teacher and that was the last thing on my to do list before we got married.

Haha, a girl who admits her BSC moments!  You gotta own the BSC to rock the BSC <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

I was pretty similar - for the first time in my life, I was with someone who I could see marrying, so my roommate's mania prompted me to start looking around once in awhile.

It may sound weird, but the last thing on my to-do list before we get married is date for at least 3 years.  I've heard the "first 3 years is honeymoon phase" thing a lot, and my parents dated for 5 years.  It just feels right for us.  We plan to get married at just before the 4 year mark.

HETSUP! I could have sworn you were around longer than 2 months before your FI proposed... or have we been engaged that long?!?!? lol

I never lurked the first day I found the boards I posted, more soul searching than weding planning.

I made a couple responsive posts right after joining about NWR issues that I had input on, mostly here and on P&E.  I didn't join into anything WR until about 6-8 months after joining (I thought FI, then BF, was going to propose soon).  He didn't propose for another year, but I'd already come out of lurkdom so I just kept posting, but mainly here and not so much on P&E.

I had never heard of TK until I googled something about a wedding shower.  I was in a wedding and I was going to plan a shower (which the bride decided she didn't want so it was cancelled).  Somehow I found the boards and they were too interesting to leave.

I eventually changed my screen name because mine had my first name in it (just like Sapphire did).  So, I've been around for 2 years.  Although, I did take a big break from posting in between.

I didn't lurk the first time because I didn't think to.  I never did an intro post either. With the second screen name, I figured it was silly to lurk since I had already been posting.

I was around for maybe 2 months before he proposed - I think I lurked for a couple of weeks before I started posting. I originally only joined to look at the pictures which is why I ended up changing my SN after awhile to this one.

Edit: Yeah I was kind of mean to hetshup on her first post but I don't know why because I like her a lot now - I was either in a bad mood or KUI I bet

Well I've been lurking for a couple months now.  I originally wanted to look at some pics so I had to sign up.  After going to Jamaica to celebrate 1 yr together he took me to Robbins Bros to pick out a ring.  That whole experience was so amazing and exciting that I've been on here everyday and TK is now my homepage hehe!!  Today is my frist day actually posting.  I think I may be engaged by the end of the year.Wink
