POLL: I'm a sap

I have been listening to Christmas music at work (I can't believe Christmas is the day after tomorrow!) and the song Christmas Canon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra came on, and I had to hold back tears.

Every time that song plays I get choked up. I feel like such a loser! I figure it's because it's Canon, and every time I hear that tune in any form I get misty eyed.

How about you guys? Any Christmas tunes that make you react like this or am I the only one?

Re: POLL: I'm a sap

  • I avoid Christmas music. After working retail for 4+ years - and them starting to play it before Thanksgiving - yeaaaah I'm way over it.

However, whenever I watch the Muppet's Christmas Carol - theres a song or two in there that get me misty eyed. Feel free to judge... I don't mind :-P
  • I really wanted to click "I like turtles," but I refrained.

I don't consider myself Christian but I have such strong memories of Christmas music that it's always been really important to me.

Silent Night was the first song I ever sang in public, exactly 11 years ago tomorrow, and my favorite is O Holy Night (I've sang solos in this multiple times and it always reminds me of the good parts of high school).
And if the stormy weather came...I'd just kiss you in the rain... Daisypath Anniversary tickers image

  • Not Christmas songs, but there are songs that make me squirt a tear or two. Some other songs make me weep like a baby. I don't think there is anything wrong with that!

<div>This, entirely. I hate Christmas music because I worked retail, not because I'm Jewish.  I fricken <3 the Muppet Christmas Carol, and those songs really move me. I was singing along to it just the other day and mortifying my Little Sis (in big brothers/sisters). </div>
  • S/O retail:

The little drummer boy song makes me tear up in a different way.. more of a "I want to claw my eardrums out" way.

There are so many ridiculous versions of that song. The "rum pum pa pum pum" part makes me twitch. I heard a different version at least once an hour when I worked retail.

  • I love Christmas music. My retail experience ruined Halloween for a time, but not Christmas. There aren't any songs that make me cry, but there's one that kind of gives me chills. It's "One Child" by Natalie Grant.
  • Charlotte Church's "O Holy Night" is another one that gives me chills.

This is what we all walked down the aisle to at my BFF's wedding this past weekend. Before I got halfway down, I was kicking myself for not stuffing tissues in my dress.

I'm a huge sap for Christmas music. A lot of it makes me tear up when I hear it, if I am wearing my emotions particulary close to the vest that day.

I'm ashamed to say that the first time I heard Christmas Shoes, I totally welled up. The sad part took me by surprise. Now I can't stand that song.

I love the traditional Christmas hymns as long as they aren't butchered, and anything sung by Nat King Cole - especially the Christmas Song.

I adore all Manheim Steamroller, and sometimes it makes me tear up because my mom always played that non stop at Christmas so it reminds me strongly of my childhood.

One of my favorites is a really random one - Christmas Day by Dido. My sister and I love it - it's "our song", so I get teary sometimes when I hear it. I wrote her a story one year that went along with the plot of the song, and illustrated and bound it with nice paper. She still has it.

I'm with you though Wink - any and all versions of Little Drummer Boy give me involuntary twitches.
  • I do like Turtles!

I like certain Christmas songs, oldies but goodies and upbeat ones.  Strangely I like Ellvis' Blue Christmas.  :)
  • I too love Pachebel's Cannon but I love the Boy's Choir version of the Christmas Cannon. It gets me very emotional!

  • That song just makes me think weddings, not Christmas lol.

I couldnt' help, when I read Trans Siberian Orchestra, to remember The Office episode with Dwight rocking out to Carol of the Bells! Haha

    Retail is no excuse!

I worked retail for NINE Christmases, and I STILL love Christmas and Christmas music!

I'm a fan of Sleigh Ride, and carols, and music from The Nutcracker.

Not a huge Trans-Siberian fan, though.

  • Anything by Burl Ives. I love that man's voice, and me and my mom used to listen to the Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer soundtrack, which featured one of my favorite songs to this day "Holly, Jolly Christmas".
  • I love xmas music and i love the christmas cannon also.
I cry when I hear the song The Christmas Shoes and parts of the nutcracker at times...

    Anniversary

  • I LOVE Christmas music, but I refuse to listen to any of it before black Friday.

O Holy Night always gets me, as well as Mary Did You Know.

Once, when I was in high school, I was on the elliptical at the gym, watching/listening on my headphones to CMT, and Concrete Angel by Martina McBride came on, and I got teared up, then started genuinely crying, and eventually had to get off the machine and go to the bathroom to get myself together. I blame it a combination of PMS and exercise endorphins.
