what's it like: shop owners/associates

Hi all-
I've curious to learn--from the folks who REALLY know, i.e. theknot community--what your good/bad/ANYthing experiences have been or are working inside the bridal gown industry.
I've been a bride and what seems like every other role out there that involves a visit to a bridal store over my lifetime, so no "stars in my eyes" here--plus, I've worked in customer service and public relations for more than 30 years, so my curiousity is genuine.
I'm really only interested in bridal gown shop info, and I've heard that this is THE place to start...any help?
Thanks!
K

Probably. I would hope not since I had to read the post about 5 times to get any sort of meaning out of it. I could just need a nap though. Is it asking if we WORK in the dress industry?

  • Um, I'm not a vendor. Even if I were, it would violate TOS for me to discuss it here... Is this trying to draw people out so they can get banned?

  • I'm ONLY asking because its something I'd like to do for my next/second career! I'd read that this was a good, supportive environment to ask for honest help. The rude comments nap are unnecessary.

See the problem is we don't know you and you came here and posted something that suspiciously looking like soliciting information for an alternate purpose which is against TK's TOS.

What does this even mean? If you are trying to say that my comment that maybe I'm not comprehending what you are asking is because I'm tired is rude, you need a thicker skin. I was giving you the benetfit of the doubt that it was my reading fail. Clearly, it wasn't.

  • Is it wrong that I feel more like a reg and less like newb now that someone called my comment rude?

Nope, not at all. I felt all warm and fuzzy too the first time I asked a clarifying question and was randomly called rude.

  • Just wait until you ladies get your first hateful PM.  That's the day you celebrate.  I didn't feel like a regular until I got banned during Lucygate.  Now I wear that ish like a badge of honor.

  • I have to say, as a newb Lucygate was amazing. I for sure popped some popcorn and didn't move from my computer all day. It was entertaining as all get out, but it scared me back into lurking for a long time.

    Next up: random hateful PM!

  • Ok ok ktex, I'll bite.

Are you talking about shops in your area, or are you asking about just general experiences?

Um.... in general, make an appointment or your experience will not be awesome (nobody will be available to help you in most cases).

Don't get discouraged if you don't find a dress the first appointment out, it can happen.

Wear underwear you don't care about other people seeing (for me personally, I have no shame and rocked some bright orange ones).

Don't bring too many people with you.  If you get overwhelmed easily, just go alone on your first run.  You can have your magical glitter experience later with your group of girls once your head is on straighter and you've narrowed down your choices.

That's all I got, I've never sold anything to anyone.  In fact, I flunked out after one day of Girl Scouts.  People know what they want; none of my business.

  • Was simply asking what it is like to work at or own a bridal gown store.

Ok, but we're all just brides or have been brides. Vendors don't really hang out on the boards because they aren't allowed to advertise their business at all. I don't think The Knot is a great place for you to research that end of the industry. ETA: I'm on my phone and some punctuation isn't showing up, so I apologize if the first sentence flows weird.

I have been anxiously awaiting hateful PMs the last 2 weeks, but apparently the newbiverse is comfortable calling me out right in front of everybody.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

OP, I don't think you are going to get the information you are looking for on here. I also don't agree that PP was rude by saying she was tired and maybe just needs a nap.

A suggestion also if you plan on sticking around, Be a little more clear as to what you are looking for. This is the internet and people cannot read minds.
