Help! I don't know what to do!

So I found the perfect dress!

http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=7af14d65-e824-4bef-8d60-7f6d7e71e1cb&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=1&colorId1=

But..I am not getting married until October 2012 and I feel like it is too early to even look at dresses. There is an alfred angelo store an hour from where I live and my mom wants to go look at it, but what if I fall in love with it? Should i stick with it and buy it? Or should I wait?

Has anyone ever had this problem?

  • Yeah, it's way too early. I wouldn't try anything on until around a year out. You could totally change your mind, change sizes, or fall head over heels in love with another dress by then.
  • Agreed! I am just under a year about and I don't have my first appt to try on dresses until the 28th of this month. I am scared to even look this early because of size changes, etc. That being said . . I haven't seen a dress online that I have gone OMG for either.

Keep in mind too though just because you love it on the model or on the rack . . doesn't mean you will love it on you.
  • I would definitely wait. You have over 2 years until your wedding. I'm 9 months out right now, and I have my first dress shopping appointment this Monday. However, I've been engaged for almost a year now. Last year when I was first engaged I began looking at dresses online, and I still now look at styles I want to try on, but it's amazing how much my taste has transitioned in just one year. Ultimately, you won't know exactly what will look best until you start trying on dresses, and you don't want to spend two years wondering if you should have waited for new styles that come out.

  • I agree 100% with pp's.  Wait.  If you want, keep a file of dresses that you like, if your tastes are the same when you are ready to shop, it can be helpful.  If your tastes change, you'll be able to look back and say "Whew!  thank goodness I waited!"

  • Not to mention that your wedding plans themselves might change entirely.  If you end up with, say, a casual lunch reception, a beach wedding, or a courthouse ceremony, that dress might not work so well.  I'd wait to purchase the dress until after you've booked the venue.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Exactly. Until you've started making actual wedding plans, do not buy a dress. If I were you, I would stop looking at dresses online too. You will just drive yourself crazy.
