"soft white" wedding dress

Hi Ladies,
I recently purchased a dress from davids bridal, the color is "soft white" and it's basically between a white and ivory color. I'm at a loss for how I should pair my shoes, fiances shirt color, etc with the dress... should I go with ivory or white? Anyone else puchase a dress in this color or have suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: "soft white" wedding dress

  • I would go white. I'm sure it will be undectable either way, but I've heard the general rule of thumb is to go lighter, rather than darker. I read somewhere that if you pair ivory accessories against white, you risk the ivory accessories looking "dirty".
  • i agree. go lighter.  with photography flashes everything should wash out to be closer to white anyway.  if you're worried, get a swatch of the dress fabric to take with you to compare =)  i did that with my BM dresses. the swatch they gave me was TINY, so I took it to the paint store and picked out the exact color paint chip and used that =)

my DB dress is "soft white" as well.   I'm treating it as white. . I have silver shoes, silver crystal earrings.  Groom and GMs are wearing white shirts.

    which dress did you get?
  • My dress was diamond white (Maggie's not-so-white white).  DH wore a white jacket and shirt.  My dress was slgihtly darker than his - but the ivory for him would have been too dark / yellowish.  Looked fine in pics.

My daughter's dress was a soft white.  Her H wore a white shirt, and her shoes were white, but she did look around until she found a pair of shoes that were a more creamy white and not a bright white.

I just took another peek at her pictures, and the white shirts look great.

  • I wore an ivory dress and my fiance had a white shirt under his charcoal grey suit.  His tie was white with silver stripes.  It looked great!
  • White... White goes well with any other colors.

  • My dress is soft white too. My veil is ivory, and I absolutely cannot tell the color difference- the bright white veil was actually too white.  FI's shirt will be white, though.  My shoes are blue, so can't help ya there :)

It depends on the fabric of your dress, too- my dress is all lace, no shine, so it doesn't look as stark as say, a satin dress would.

</div><div>Don't try to match it at all, go with a totally different contrasting color.
