David's Bridal and Alterations

I would like to hear from brides who have bought gowns at David's and had dealt with having their alterations done at David's.

I found my dress there, and I love it. The size 14 was almost a perfect fit, so I am thinking the only thing that needs to be done is a bustle. Hopefully, beyond that, we won't have to have much in the way of alterations done.

I had a WONDERFUL experience with the David's I went to in Davenport, IA, and Joni, my consultant, was sweet, not pushy and extremely helpful. I <3 her.

What is terrifying to me is the alterations. I am terrified by stories I have heard about the alterations and special order process. I was thinking that I would be OCD about it and ask to talk to the person who would be doing my alterations and see examples of their work. The other option, I guess, would be to find someone else who does alterations whom I trust, and take it to that person.

Is that crazy? I don't want to be Bridezilla about it, but this is THE GOWN for me. Anyone out there have anything to share? I would appreciate it.

Re: David's Bridal and Alterations

  • We got our bridesmaid dresses from Davids and will be taking them elsewhere for hems just because the price to get it done at Davids is a lot more than getting it done by a seamstress not because of the quality of work done at my local David's.

The thing you have to keep in mind with David's is that it is a chain store and the quality of service you get will differ from store to store, so there really is no way of comparing them. I would post this on your local board to see if anyone has had their alterations done at the store you want to work with and go from there.

  • Ditto that it varies.  I had absolutely no problems with alterations at the DB in Brea, but SSIL had a total nightmare with the Long Beach location.  It might be best to ask your local board if they have more specific information about the locations in your area.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Very true about the service altering from location to location. I purchased my dress from a David's Bridal near my parents home in Denver and had a wonderful expeirence. However, when I've gone into the David's Bridal in Fort Collins (where I live), I've not been very happy with their customer service.

  • I went to DB in Plymouth Meeting, Pa and love, love my alteration lady there..She went above and beyond the call. First she measured my bust and I found out that I was wearing the wrong bra size. She showed me what it was supposed to be ( I went to macy's and the ladies there measured me). Then she found the right undergarment to work with my dress and give me the support i needed. after all that my dress fit me almost perfect. She is taking the nect in (its a halter top) and adding my bust. Call before your fitting and talk to alterations. I couldnt be happier..

  • I got my dress and our bm dresses there but will NOT be getting our alterations there.

One of my bm has used them before ans said they were very expensive.. it cost her almost the cost of the dress to have a very minor alteration done.
  • I took my DB bridesmaid dress elsewhere because they were going to charge me $45 just to have the dress hemmed. What a rip. I paid a small alterations place $25.
