Craig's list killer committed suicide

Did you know?
  • August 15th, 2010 2:43 pm

The Craigslist Killer committed suicide in his jail cell today. The former Boston University medical student met prostitutes and escorts through ads on Craigslist and robbed them. The last robbery ended up with a murder of Julissa Brisman in the Marriot Copely Place Hotel in Boston.

Markoff answered massage and escort ads and robbed  the women when they showed up in a prearranged hotel room.  His last victim was shot three times and her head was bashed in, according to CBS News

Markoff was pulled over on Interstate 95 on his way to Foxwood Casino in Connecticut. He had his fiancee in the car with him at the time. Police separated the two and took them back to Boston. Markoff was booked on murder charges, his fiancee was let go.  Megan McAllister, Markoff's fiancee had no involvement in the crimes.

Police believe the robberies were to cover Markoff's gambling debts. Markoff pleaded "not guilty" to the murder charges and was being held for trial at the Nashua Street jail in Boston when he killed himself.

  • Oh, wow. Did you hear how he killed himself? I know that's morbid, but since he was in a jail cell, he probably didn't have many resources.

  • Oh wow...that's just crazy.
  • Hmmm. I hate to say it, but I think this makes him look really guilty.

MIAF- The only thing I could figure is hanging.?

This story said a source claimed he was found with a bag on his head and stab wounds, but the police couldn't confirm.

  • Wow. Just...wow.

However, I too am curious about the means...
  • The whole story is creepy.  I'm too, oddly curious about how someone manages to kill themselves while in jail.
  • Maybe he hung himself or saved his pills?

  • Hurmmm... Creepy.

  • Yes, kind of sad too.

meh, the world is better off without him.  He probably wouldn't do this if he was innocent, and he just saved tax payers a ton of money in court fees and feeding his sorry ass in jail for the next 50 years.

    Too uncompassionate?
  • So Steph, tell me, how do you feel about the death penalty? :P

  • Actually, jas, I don't know how I feel about the death penalty?  I have a hard time allowing any person to decide when someone else should die.  Whether murder or death penalty.

If he wants to kill himself though, oh well.

FWIW- I do think that doctor assisted suicide should be legalized, if the person is suffering from a chronic illness, and they expressed their wishes prior (to avoid any issues with their mental state, etc.)

  • I'm with Steph, probably not a bad thing that he's gone.  I do feel bad for his family and stuff.

The article said since he was a medical student, he'd know how to effectively make himself bleed out.  All he'd need is something sharp.  Though that's gotta take some amazing will power to actually make yourself bleed out.
  • Mocha- that reminds me of when hikers and stuff have to amputate their own arms for survival.  I really don't think I could ever do it.

Have you read Aron Ralston's "Between a Rock and a Hard Place"?  He cut his own arm off after it was trapped by a loose stone while hiking.  Half the book is him reminiscing about past trips, but every other chapter is about him trying to survive/deciding what to do/ultimately cutting off his arm.
  • Sad a fellow human being is dead, but he didn't care when he (allegedly) took the life of another human being. So, good riddance and peace to his soul.
  • His poor FI.  She didn't have a clue.  I wonder if he ever came clean to her after he went to prison.

If he didn't, she must have been convinced of his guilt, because she called off the wedding.  He killed himself on what would have been their anniversary.

I read an article in Vanity Fair about this case where they discussed as much of the evidence as had been made public. I would bet two paychecks he was guilty if even half of that article was correct. I agree with you-saved the taxpayers some money and I might add the family a lot of the anguish of a trial. The saddest part to me is that even though the person who killed their loved one is dead, the family is in a sense sentenced to life with this guy-nothing can change what happened, and they get no "parole" from that truth for as long as they live.
