Snarky Brides

I'm thankful for...

Ok ladies. Let's talk about the things we are thankful for. I don't mean the normal stuff either, like being thankful for your kids, family, friends or signifigant others, that's assumed. Think of something that you might take for granted each day, but when you think about it or hear about it, you realize how happy you are that you do or don't have it. I figure this could lead to some interesting conversation...

I'm thankful that I've never had a migraine or at least I assume I haven't. I hear people describe them and they seem to be debilitating and totally shiitty to experience. I have some pretty crazy headaches at times, especially from hangovers, but never a migraine and I'm thankful for that.

Re: I'm thankful for...

  • It's rainy and cool out, but not cool enough to just have windows open with the oven on.  I like when it gets that cold.  That's real fall to me :).

Threadjack: Shaye, I think we are going to Forrest of Fears in Sterling Forest in a few weeks.  have you been?  Is it worth it?  We were just up at the Ren Faire this weekend and I saw the brochure.
  • I have no idea about this "cool" weather yall are talking about. I live RIGHT next to the beach in California and today it was 105 outside. I have not felt heat like this in a while. It was record breaking heat in Los Angeles today I heard.

I am thankful for not having a ear infection right now. Every time I get one I am positive that my ear/hearing will never be the same again.

I am thankful for having hot water to take a shower in.

I am thankful that I don't get sea-sick and I am not afraid to fly.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: I'm thankful for... : What's the temp by you nates? I think it's in the low 60's now and raining which is leading to some nice breezes through the windows. But I know what you mean, it's not quite enough. I actually have never been to the Forrest of Fears (I'm so deprived haha) so I'm sorry I can't give you any feedback on that. Surprisingly, I've never been to the ren fair either ( I assume you went to the one in or around Tuxedo, NY?) The only thing I know about the Ren fair is that FI used to work there back when he was 17 or so and really it was more about smoking doobies with friends than actually working LOL.

Haha, Shaye.  Yep, that's the one.  I think we might try it on the opening weeked ( i think 10/8).  We heard good reviews and Jaime (on this board) said someone liked it a lot.
  • I'm thankful for a vacation at the end of the week, first in a while, and escaping to cooler temperatures, why on earth would it be *ahem* officially autumn, and it's still getting up into the 100°Fs!

  • I'm thankful that H works so hard. My job doesn't pay well, but I love it and I really appreciate that we can afford for me not to make as much.

I'm thankful that my grandma has recovered from her illness last fall.

  • I'm thankful for cool weather too! I was beginning to think it was going to be summer forever, but its dry and cool today. YAY!!

I'm also thankful for pumpkins. Yummmm
  • I'm thankful that my parents didn't just hand me everything in life.  I feel like it's matured me a lot and that I have an advantage over a lot of people my age because I actually know how to responsibly handle my finances.  And I'm thankful that FI and I share that trait as well as our financial goals for the future.  So many marriages end because of money problems and I'm hopeful that that'll be one less thing we have to worry about.

    Anniversary
  • I'm also really glad that I'm walking. I sustained a pretty bad injury to my ankle a couple of years ago. I assumed it was a bad sprain and I hate going to the doctor so I waited a week before realizing that the swelling wasn't going down, I still couldn't walk. let alone put any pressure on it and finally made an appt with an orthopaedist. I got there and got x-rays done and my the surgeon was horrified. He scheduled me for sugery only a couple of days later. My doctor classified it as a freak injury. I should have broken my ankle, but I ended up severely dislocating it instead.

I had 2 surgerys on my ankle and was on crutches for 4 months (which feels like a lifetime). I started to understand in some shape or form how horrible it must be to lose a leg or to be paralyzed. I had screws put into my ankle to put the bones back together and I tore all of the ligaments. I had to have a second surgey to remove the screws. It was one of the most horrible things to go through, and yet, compared to some things people go through it's nothing. I went to work through the whole thing and I remember after my second surgery and several weeks of PT, I felt like something came over me. I stood up and started walking very slowly and carefully. I walked slowly into the lunch room where a bunch of my coworkers were eating and they all stared at me with their mouths wide open. I don't think I've ever been so proud of myself.  I still to this day am thankful for every step that I take. I have a pretty nasty scar and my ankle still swells up and is sore from time to time. But I am so grateful for every step that I take. It's a wonderful feeling.

I'm thankful that both my and DH's cars are paid for. Some days when this job search gets really depressing and I'm looking at our insurance bill I become extremely thankful that we we aren't spending more money on our cars. I'm also thankful that even though everything that could go wrong with my car that did this year (blown tire, dead battery, double leak in my rear differential & blown alternator) all happened while I was still working and could afford for it to happen.

I'm very thankful everyday that we have a place to live and ((good)) food to eat. I'm thankful for my faith for keeping me strong while DH and I walk through our first-ever rough patch in life as far as finances go. It's very humbling to go from the college kid who has it all and then the newly graduated adult with a great job to a newlywed with no job and med school loans.

I'm thankful for my Howie Bear who keeps me company during the day when I'm all alone in this new town. I'm thankful for the Sonic Blast DH brought home for me tonight to surprise me. I'm thankful for all the new friends I've made here who make living here bearable, even if I only get to see them on the weekends. I could go on and on....

ETA: I just realized I wasn't supposed to write that I'm thankful for my friends but I was so nervous that I wasn't going to have any when we moved here after the wedding so I can't help it, I'm really thankful for my new friends!!!
  • I am SO THANKFUL to Blueeyed for starting the thread about banning the anti-homosexuality facebook group.

Blue-- you reminded me about that gay boy from my dorm, which made me look him up and find out he's been really successful :) It just made my night, seriously.

In more general terms, I'm thankful that people can overcome hardships and build a good life for themselves despite ignorance that seems to be everywhere.  There are so many good people out there that have to claw through bullshit, and they do it.
