Well that's interesting

Evite has an "invitation options" tab and I clicked on it thinking it would be design color or something. Here are the options

ask guests to bring something
poll guests
let guests suggest date/time
request payment from guests
change guest reminders

Generally if I'm inviting someone somewhere I'm not going to ask them to bring something, or request payment. Silly invitation people...

Re: Well that's interesting

  • I get the asking to bring something & the poll part. But payment?

An organization I was a part of in college used that.  They'd host study group/pizza get-togethers and request everyone who came chip in $5 or so (I don't remember exactly how much) to buy the food/drinks.

I always declined the invite so I have no idea how the actual payment part worked.
  • I don't know how it works for this, but I'll often buy a group of tickets for a concert or an event and then friends pay me back, so maybe something like that... or if the evite was a fundraiser, that'd make sense, too.
  • Hmm ok that makes more sense then.

  • We often use it for team potlucks, so we can keep track of who is bringing what. I agree, though, that if I was hosting something, no one would need to pay or bring anything.

  • That was fast Sco :) Man, I should have totally made it a pot luck...is it too late?

How about I only require knotties to bring food? Is that rude?
  • Email comes to my phone.

As far as the potluck, I don't see a problem with it. Just advertise it as "Oh and if I met you on the internet, then you need to bring a dish to share".
  • Aaaand also, the website is probably just trying to meet the "needs" of its users.  If the people want a "request payment" option, that's what they want.  Even if it could be rude.  I think we've seen enough "but it's my daaaaaaay" people to know that what's in good taste isn't always what's done.

I could see it now, I put that in the e-vite and suddenly everyone rsvp's no because they think some wacko is going to poison us all.

I need Kate#'s punch recipe...that was amazing..and Amanda needs to bring her spinach quiche...and Tide's apple pie...
  • I'll bring cupcakes.

  • Mmm you bring cupcakes and I'll bring cake balls and we'll have a nice sugar coma :) I'm also thinking of getting wings from a local pizza place. 100 wings for $50 isn't too bad.

  • Not at all, but check out prices at Costco, too! They make lots of already-prepared party trays.
  • Hmm if I add more emails will it resend the whole group or just the new ones? One of them didn't go through but I don't want to spam people...
  • Make the changes now and add more people. I doubt very many have seen it yet.

  • A couple coworkers threw a retirement party for a friend of ours.  They had it at some fancy restaurant/club, complete with booze and dancing.  I think it was $35-$40 a person.  I didn't go, but I know that they used evite for the invitations, and that there was a payment option.  I guess in a situation like that, it's usedful.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

    LMAO!
  • I got one of the request payment evites a couple of months ago. One of my friends was turning 30 and she rented out a banquet area at our ballpark for one of the games. It was something like $1500, so she asked that each guest pay $50 (or $75 per couple). There was a link in the evite that would take you to pay pal.

I adore this girl, but I RSVPd no out of principle.
