Snarky Brides

I can't wait for the election...

... because these political ads are KILLING ME! Seriously, it's horrible. I think the ratio of political ads to non-political ads is maybe 2:1 at this point and there's still about a month to go. The Republican party is running an ad series against our governor where every ad is some sad or smug-sounding white people talking and they always say "Strickland didn't get the JOBS done!" and it makes me want to punch a baby. And I don't even really like our governor but I seriously can't take that stupid slogan anymore! And they're using it in like 8 different ads and I just find it so stupid.

Are the political ads becoming intolerable where you are or do you like them for some reason? Are you really into politics or are you just becoming apathetic? I'm definitely more on the apathetic end, I try to stay informed but I'm just so disgusted with everything that it's hard to keep up!

  • I can't freakin stand them either. I hate hate hate political ads. And they show like wildfire during the morning news, which is about the only time I watch TV. I absolutely cannot wait unitl Nov.
  • I was working on a campaign in 2006 and a PAC took out a billboard calling my candidate a baby killer. It was messy.

I actually love campaign season though.

  • I don't understand why we get Connecticut election ads here in NJ.
  • I hate them mostly because they are just so BAD (as in poorly done). Gimme dancing monkies dammit!
  • I'm on the Do Not Call list and those fvckers still call me. And I don't even live in that damn county anymore.

We get NY ones here in So. CT, but no NJ ones I have seen. Weird!
  • I'm ready for it to be done too.

Some journalists love campaign season but I can't stand all the pretentious bullshit from all the candidates.  They're all so nice to us, because they want our air time.  It's lame.

And we have some really, really douchey people running this year, including a guy who wants to drill for oil in national parks.  Moron.

  • I think they should adhere to the same standards as product ads. You can't disparage the other product, you can only promote your product.

    I'd love that.

Some of the negative attack ads I've heard here are pretty damn laughable.  Hard to know how anyone could take them seriously.

Yeah there's a really competitive House race where my parents live, which happens to be BARELY in our TV viewing area. So we keep having to hear about these two yahoos pretty much constantly because their ads are on the general Northeast Ohio viewing area. So I totally feel your frustration!

I like this idea a lot in theory, but you know how Tide can be all, "better than the other leading brand" in their commercials? The candidates would skirt it the same way.

It's a different list! It's just a list of registered voters.

  • and I meant Tide the product, not the person.... weird!

It must be because NY, NJ and CT are part of the "Tri-state area".

I see the ones for all 3 here all the time.
  • Skirting the rule would still be better than outright lying and bashing another candidate by name.

  • You win a miniature giraffe! Only, I have to keep it with me because, well, because that's the rule! So, congrats!
  • Woo giraffe!  This is a gir-trophy!
  • ::waits for some one to show me picture of said gir-trophy::
  • ANNNNNNAAAA!

    I am a photoshop failure.
  • i don't know what's worse: the political ads or the fact that so many people wouldn't know who was running for their state government without the ads!
  • Bec. Now you are making me itch to have a new sig pic. love it!!
  • Meg, when you see opportunity like dees, you jump in eet. ;)

I usually don't care, but this year I do.  I haven't seen any MS ads but I don't watch regular TV.

  • YES!  Girtrophy.  Bec has ridiculous skills (beyond her obvious, serious job skills).
