Somehow this doesn't seem right to me

I just read this article about Joran Van der Slut, or whatever his name is:

According to this article, the penalty for aggravated robbery where someone is killed is life in prison, but homocide or 2nd degree murder is only 15 years and premeditated murder is only 30 years. Somehow that seems a bit backwards to me.
Faulty Logic (IMO): Planning to kill someone to steal something is worse than planning to kill them for another (or no) reason.

I have to run to a committee meeting for the next 4 hours (no kidding), so I'll leave you to discuss amongst yourselves.

I was under the impression that Peru didn't have the life in jail penalty at all....I also heard that the most he could get for the murder was 35 years, but the courts tend to shave a few years off if the accused confesses to the crime.

Think of it this way:  he's behind bars and he can't hurt anyone else's daughter for a very long time.  No prison is a hospitable one, but the penal system in Peru is worse than anything we have here in the states and certainly worse than what Aruba has.  He's also being brought up on the extortion charges in Alabama, so he'll have a sentance to serve here; and if he's convicted of the murder in Peru, it will give even more circumstantial evidence to the courts in Aruba to bring him up on charges for killing Natalee, particularly that by his own word, the girl in Peru was looking up stuff about Natalee on his laptop right before he killed her.

He's going to suffer.  My guess is, if he lives to be 100, he'll never have another decent night of sleep.

That is a little odd, but sentences don't seem to mean much.  People get off early all the time here in the US.

There isn't a fitting punishment for someone like him.  I mean, unless we can drug him, rape him, stab and beat him and through him overboard while he's still breathing.  No matter what they do, it won't bring his victims back.

I think the authorities should look into all of his movements since he turned 18, I have a sneaking suspicion that he has done this more than twice.

OMG he did?  I read that he stole her car keys and abandoned the car 50 blocks from the hotel, but I didn't read THAT!!!

I also read that the girl was a lesbian and that she had mentioned the Natalee case to her cousin and was totally disgusted by this guy....why would she go into a room with him???

I had been following the case on Websleuths, but I got busy and kind of lost track.

I read that she was gay and that he stole her car in the New York Post on Friday, this whole situation just gets weirder and weirder.
