Snarky Brides

I'm floundering in WR stuff.

Help me :(  I'm just processing that we're 9 months out, and I have no idea what stuff we need to do when.  I mean, obvoiusly the big stuff is easy but Roxy's post about the hotel rooms made me think "huh...when do we need to block those?"  I really, really hate TK's checklist.  Has anyone found a better checkllist out there somewhere in internetland?

Oh honey, I planned my entire wedding in 7 months. You will be fine.
  • I wasn't even planning at 9 months out. You're miles ahead of where I was. I think we did the hotel room block 2 months in advance, but we did shop around before that to see which places had the best prices.

I used TK's checklist as a guideline, but didn't pay attention to the times it said to do a lot of stuff. But we had a pretty simple wedding so there wasn't much to do but get the decorations, food, and invites. Oh, and the dress.

Well I know I'll be fine.  But I'm just all weird about when this stuff needs to be done.  Because I don't have time to do a lot at once, so I need to prioritize and I really don't know when some certain stuff has to be done.

I know I'm being ridiculous, I promise.  If someone can just direct me to a better checklist, I'll be on my merry little ridiculous way.  I think it's because we ran out of time because of my work stress and had to change the date once, that I'm freaking out about it happening again, KWIM?

  • Yup, you'll be ok. I didn't start planning until 7 months into our 13 month engagement. On the roomblock thing, my venue is a plantation/hotel and they won't let people book in our block until 3 months out. It'll depend on what hotel you choose to have room blocks in, I guess. And no, I don't know of a better checklist. I've been flying by the seat of my pants and asking everyone here, basically.

  • Theknot one just stressed me out too. I think we did our room block at 5 months out, and that was only because our wedding fell on a local holiday and they were building new hotels in the area to accomodate the tourists.

  • I like the checklist at www.brides.com. I also really like their magazine.

  • The ones in wedding magazines? I know I used to have some of those checklists. No Idea how good they are though...

Yeah, I tried to go through and check off a bunch of stuff I didn't need.  But then I was like, wait, this thing has me ordering invites at 9 months out?? And I knew that was crazy.

Ha, now you guys will all think I'm a crazy spaz.  I should have kept my question to "Anyone found a better checklist than TK's?"

  • I like the list on the Martha Stewart Weddings site - although I'm always about 1-2 mos. behind.

As long as you have your hotel blocks done before invitations go out (so you can tell your guests where your block is), you're fine.  Unless there's some big convention that overlaps with your wedding, you shouldn't need it done sooner.

I marked everything that didnt apply to me or my wedding as already completed, and then planned accordingly. from what they say you have left, decide what is most important to you and go from there.
  • The Knot's online checklist sucks.

However, they have a little blue book, called something like "the Knot's book of Lists" that has a much better set of checklists.
  • I used the Martha Stewart list as well.

It's fun seeing you spaz about wedding things. I keep forgotting you aren't already married.

  • J&K- hotelplanner.com is a wonderful site. It lets the hotels bid on your request and you get to see all the fees and crazy restrictions up front.

As for a checklist, i have no idea. TK says I am overdue on 68 items, but won't show me what they are. Oh well, I guess they aren't getting done.

Get a place, an officiant, clothing, chairs, food and drink. Everything else is optional.

Thanks for the hotelplanner.com rec!  I'll definitely check that out.

And yes, dress and officiant are my current priorities.  (We've got the place.  Had that for over a year, ha!)

  • I second the recommendation for HotelPlanner.com!  I used it to reserve a block of 25 rooms a full eight months in advance -- but that's because I had the lack of foresight to book our venue for the same weekend as the FBR Open (and, apparently, the Superbowl!).  Go me.  *facepalm*

If you live in a major metropolitan area, I'd recommend checking an event calendar to get an idea of what you'll be competing against for hotel rooms.  If someone hadn't happened to mention the FBR Open while standing outside my office door, I would have waited until til six months out and been screwed.
