Groom's Pie?? Thoughts Please.

My fiance hates cake. It's the weirdest thing to me cause I love it. I want to give him a groom's cake, but he has made it clear that he doesn't want cake. So what about a groom's pie? For his birthdays and such, he always gets pie (chocolate silk, cherry, apple, blueberry....). So would it be awkward if I got him a pie? I've heard that the grooms' cake is an extra cake to help feed the masses.... But a pie can't do that. Should it be something just for him, or just for the wedding party? Should I ask the baker to decorate it? Any thoughts are much appreciated!

My FI prefers pie too so we are getting about 80 servings of pie and 80 servings of cake for a 150 guest wedding. We will also have other desserts (candies, brownies, etc.)

If you get pie you should make sure there is more than one. A normal size pie yields 6-8 servings so it would be rude to your guests to only have that option available to a few.

But, I think having an alternative to cake is a great idea, especially since it is a nice representation of your FI's preferences.

I have seen on here pics of the wedding pies since the bride and groom were not cake eaters :) .  I think it is sweet that you want to make it special for him.

Have his favorite pie as the "Groom's Pie", with some other varieties surrounding it.  I like rknox's suggestion of making the dessert 50/50 - saves you money on cake, plus gives your guests a nice selection of choices.

My MOH is making our cake, and for a surprise she is going to make him a "ball and chain" groom's cake to serve at the RD.

Why can't you use it to serve guests? You can have a dessert bar area with several types of pie to chose from. Your FI isn't the only one who doesn't like cake! Other guests may appreciate having the choice, too.
