Bleedin' armadillo groom's cake

Has anyone thought of or has had mimicked the groom's cake in Steel Magnolias? (A red velvet cake in the shape of an armadillo with grey icing)--I would like to do so, but I don't know where to go...

I am sure just about any professional baker could work something like that up for you.

There doesn't seem to be a mold for it, but there are instructions for how to do it.

FI said that was the one thing he wanted, other than marrying me, of course.  Neither baker we consulted looked shocked.  One pulled out a photo album of cakes, turned to the armadillo section, and asked him to pick one.  The other asked if he wanted it cartoonish, realistic, or with a tire track running across it.  He chose realistic.

Apparently, it's a fairly common request.  Your cake baker should not have a problem with it.

A friend of mine was in a local theater production of Steel Magnolias, and they had the cake at a reception after, so I'm sure any professional baker could do it.
