Compliments & motivation

People at my office that I work with every day finally noticed my weight loss this week! Even the two mean ladies at my office noticed and complimented me. Yay! That just makes me want to keep at it even more!

What keeps you motivated?

Re: Compliments & motivation

  • Yay congrats!  It does feel good when the biatches say something nice.

What keeps me motivated?  Results I guess.  Seeing the number be 2 lbs less on the scale this week (even with a few "bad" days last week) makes me want to keep going and increase my effort.

  • Gettin' the compliments :)

Good for you girl, keep up the good work!
  • Honestly...Victoria's Secret catalogs lol.  Those women are FIT!

  • Racing motivates me to work out.  This spring I'm planning to do a 10 miler and a half marathon.  I want good times, so that means I need to train!  And even though I'm not starting my 'official' training until February, I know I need to go to the gym so I'll be fit and ready to start running hard.

Also I agree with JMU_Bride09... victorias secret catalog is a big motivator!!
  • I agree that those unexpected compliments can be a big motivation!

Last week in an aerobics class that I take, there was a gym regular who hasn't been in the same classes as me lately (her schedule changed). I hadn't seen her in months. We aren't friends or anything- I have no idea what her name is, we've never talked. But in the middle of class she came up to me and said, "I just have to tell you- you look great! I don't know if it's from working out, losing weight, whatever, but you look fabulous!".

That really made my day (week?). I think people who see us every day (like spouses, friends, co-workers) don't notice as much because it's gradual. But when someone you haven't seen in months sees a big difference, it feels good! :)
  • I take my measurements every 2 weeks (waist, thighs, hips), when I'm down an inch here and there, I get very excited :-)

People complimenting you definitely keeps me motivated! The thing that has kept me the most motivated lately is fitting into that size 4 dress and knowing that I will make sure I fit into it for the upcoming Weddings (we have 4 from now until the end of the year).

Also pictures really help me, sometimes I don't feel like the size/weight I am and the mirror and/or pictures remind me.
  • I get comments at work all the time, but they usually come off as jealous & a tad annoying...people will ask me if I eat & tell me not to go overboard...etc. A girl I sit next to is trying to lose, but whenever she brings it up how she is gaining not losing & I try & give her some tips she gets really snippy -- I think b/c I have been successful & she hasn't.

Anyways....what does keep me motivated is how good I feel about myself & how good my FI feels. VS models also help -- I really want to get a cute bikini to wear this summer :)

  • At the moment, it's my dress.  I put it on for the first time in a year last week, and it was beautiful (again!).  but, I've gained about 10 lbs (yay for losing and finding a new job), so I'm more motivated than ever to at least get back to where I was when I bought it, if not lower than that.

Seeing my weight go down 1 lb after 4 days at the gym last week helped, too.  :)

  • The compliments definitely help, but I think what makes the biggest difference is how my clothes fit.  It is the worst feeling when I put on an outfit that I really love and it looks horrible because it doesn't fit.. when it does fit again, I feel so excited and like I just want to keep working at it!
  • I have a couple motivators but here's one that always makes FI roll his eyes at me:

FI's sister.  Some of you say the VS models motivate you, well, those aren't always their thighs, we could all look like that too with the right photoshop tools!  FI's sister is a model, she's done magazine ads and some of those spreads showing how to do the exercise moves (like in Shape mag. etc), and she just did an underwear campaign.  She motivates me because she's a bridesmaid, and I want to look better than her! Wink

I'm so early in the process that there's no noticable difference in the way I look.  FI has complimented me on my commitment, that makes me smile.
  • My family and I are having a Biggest Loser competition.... everyone put money in a pool and whoever loses the highest percentage of weight gets the prize! (and pride) Its the constant competition that's keeping us all on track!
  • @ LisaNDans... that is such a fun idea!

And what keeps me motivated is just knowing that I feel better when I lose weight. I did the classic New Year's Resolution of wanting to lose weight. I've lost a couple lbs and just that alone has made me feel great. And my jeans fit better too :)

  • don't know what motivates me!!! BUT I intend to workout until my legs fall off because I NEED TO LOOK BETTER THAN MY BFF/MOH at MY WEDDING!!!! She stared the weight loss journey in July 2008 and lost 22lbs in 3 months, then found out she was pregnant in November 2008. She gained about 20lbs during the pregnancy which was ALL baby. Then in July she was back at it. In ALL she has lost like 50lbs and looks FABULOUS.

So ladies on Monday I will begin this journey and PRAY that I can stay on track. MY FH is always asking me why I’m obsessed with losing weight and I just stare at him because he has like 0% body fat...uggh!

I love him and his acceptance of this body BUT I think I'm ready to change it for myself! So wish me luck
