Roughly, I will have close to 200 guests at my reception. (I'm rounding high so I make sure I have enough!) But I'd like to do little bags of M&Ms because I love them and I want to do something personalized. I would just order the five pound bag and individual bag or box them myself. But how much should I put in a bag for each guest? I don't know how many of the 5lb bags I will need to get! Thanks!
Re: Personlized M&Ms quantity question
[QUOTE]instead of thinking 'how many' and count, can you use a measuring scoop and measure out the candy? like, each guest gets 1/4 of a cup of m&ms? then you can determine how many 5 pound bags to buy, and what size boxes/bags to get.

This. One of our favors was jelly beans, so I figured out how much fit in one box, multiplied by 125, and then got some extra.
Also, since personalized m&ms get SO pricey, have you considered just ordering some of them in the matching colors without personalizing them? It will save you some serious cash.

i agree. the personalized ones are cute, but then you eat it and its not cute anymore.
150 guests
1.5 oz/guest= approx 50 M&Ms per M&M website
16 oz in 1 lb.
for 200 guests
200 guests X 1.5 oz = 300 oz
300 oz/ 16 oz= 18.75 lbs
If I did my math correctly, you will roughly need 18.75 pounds of M&Ms. At a local candy store here it's about $12+tax per pound. that would be like $225 just for M&Ms. plus you would need the containers. HTH
If you were just putting some M&Ms in a candy dish in the middle of the table, how much would you plan on ordering? 50/person seems like a lot.
[QUOTE]I'm doing the same, but figured I would just buy the coordinating colors. Here is what I came up with for mine: 150 guests 1.5 oz/guest= approx 50 M&Ms per M&M website 16 oz in 1 lb. for 200 guests 200 guests X 1.5 oz = 300 oz 300 oz/ 16 oz= 18.75 lbs If I did my math correctly, you will roughly need 18.75 pounds of M&Ms. At a local candy store here it's about $12+tax per pound. that would be like $225 just for M&Ms. plus you would need the containers. The rule of thumb for candy is 1/4 of a pound per person. so how how many people at the table X 1/4 of a pound = how much you need for your dish.
Or just buy a bag of candy pour it in a bowl & see if you think it's enough if you were sitting at the table & buy from there
