Does anyone know what order the dances go in?

Hi, I'm not sure what happens when. I know I want to do some kind of intro for my wedding party and for us, but I'm not sure what order to do things in.  I haven't been to any weddings lately that have done the things I want to do.  When do you have the father daughter dance? How about our first dance as husband and wife? Any suggestions?  Thanks.

At DD's wedding in July, they had the intros, and then DD and SIL did their first dance.  Then everyone moved into dinner.

After dinner, the dj announced the father/daughter dance, followed by the mother/son dance.  Then the dance floor was opened for the rest of the guests.

I liked it, because we weren't standing around watching 3 spotlight dances in a row, and it did sort of signal the start of the party after the parent/child dances.

I guess different areas do it differently.  Any wedding I've been to, it was B & G, then bride and her Dad, and then Groom and his mom, then the WP.

Skip the WP dance.  Let me say it again.  SKIP the WP dance.  They are boring for guests to watch (do I really need to see your college roomie dance with your FI's HS football buddy?), and terribly uncomfortable for members of the WP.

If they really want to dance with each other, they have plenty of opportunities to dance at the rest of the reception.  But making your guests stand and watch 10-12 minutes of other people doing spotlight dances is just so boring!

I get first dance.  I get father/daughter dance.  I get mother/son dance.  I just don't get WP dance.  At.  All.

Your first dance should come first.  No other dances before that!

After first dance we usually do:

    Father/Daughter dance
    Mother/Groom dance
       Open Dancing
    Honeymoon Dance
       Open Dancing
Those are the "main" dances.  Other variations can take place as well.
