Wedding Party

I've Personally Never Seen This Done Before, But I'm Excited!

My cousin (he's a guy) is getting married in November. We have always been really close, he is like an older brother to me. He was going back and forth with who he wanted in the bridal party and decided to ask me to be his best person! I've personally never seen this done before except for in the movies but I am very excited. His FI is great and she is very easy going, I think it will be a lot of fun. Just wanted to share :)

  • That's awesome! My FI has a groomswoman (I'm the best woman, dammit) too and I love her.

  • That's cool.  My BFF was a best woman for a guy friend a couple of years ago.  The bride was a raging well.. but she had a good time anyway.

I think it's really cool that wedding parties are catching up to social norms.
  • I'm the "Best Groomsperson" (the bride is clearly the Best Woman on her wedding day) for my best friend.  Reaction seems to be very mixed, with half the people I tell thinking it's awesome and the other half insisting the bride is insane for even considering it.  I'm guessing you'll have an easier time, given that you're related to the groom, where as there's a ton of strong feelings about exes even attending weddings, let alone being part of the WP.  Hurrah for couples who realize that relationships are worth way more than perfectly symmetrical photos!
  • Have fun with it!  FI has a groomswoman, and he's told me that he's a little surprised that I was cool with it.  People can be close with members of either gender, it's great to be able to represent that with the wedding party.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Not to mince words here (okay, fine I am) but by that logic, isn't the Groom the Best Man on his wedding day?  Anyway, regardless of what you prefer to call it when a woman holds the honor attendent position for a groom, it's an honor and it's nice to see how modern weddings are more frequently embracing relationships between people regardless of antiquated gender pigeonholes.

Agreed, but we figuredavoiding the term 'Best Woman' would sooth, or at least not aggravate, those who already have issues with me being in the wedding.  For some reason, certain very traditional people are convinced I would only do so as part of a secret plot to steal the groom.  It's like, "Hello?  Been there, done that, and we're both way happier now."  I even like him more now because his FI is so good for him that it's minimized some of his more annoying traits.  Plus, she's awesome in and of herself.
