Let's talk nails..

How are you getting yours done? I'm thinking about doing a nude color Shellac.. not sure if I want to use artificial nails or not.

  • I'm doing a pale pink/ nude shellac. I never wear acrylics so I didn't think the wedding would be the best time to try them out, ya know? The color I'm leaning towards now is Essie Ballet Slippers.
  • No idea yet.
It depends on how much money I have or don't have. If I have the money, I'm getting a full set of solars, if not then I will just buy nail polish and DIY them.

  • I am doing a Shellac French manicure. I have been doing Shellac manicures for about a month now and my nails have grown out to the perfect length.

  • Honest to goodness, I don't usually have nails because I live on a farm and worked in a restaurant, and hated getting stuff under my nails. I let them grow out for the wedding but I'll either DIY clear nail polish or just go in and have them professionally shaped and still use clear polish.
  • I've been growing mine out because I was nervous about what fake nails would do to my natural nails but I wanted to have them long. They're getting kind of annoying though and I'll be glad to file them down (probably the week after the wedding).

I've been debating getting a shellac manicure, but I don't know enough about it to know if it's damaging like fake nails. I think it's also unlikely that I'll have time to get a manicure in the few days before the wedding. My back up plan is to just be pick a pretty colour and do them up the evening before at home.

  • I'm doing Shellac, either French, or Pale pink.  I highly recommend the shellac. It's basically tough as nails and I've had so many "oops" moments where I should have ruined my nails...and not a chip or scratch!
  • Rasp.berry, to my knowledge it does not ruin your nails, it actually strengthens them.  They are good for 2+ weeks.
  • I'm doing acrylics. I love the look of them and do them a lot
  • I think I'm doing acrylics with french polish.  My own nails are super short and boyish.

I got a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure (it will be my first ever!) from my bridal shower. I am going to see if they will shellac them if I pay extra. :)

LOL. I'm one of those NM people who don't know what the heck Shellac is. Actually, I've only lived here for 1 1/2 years, but I've still never heard about it.

Anyway, I recently decided to do my own nails to save money. When we did engagement pics, I realized at the last minute that my nails looked like crap b/c I just taken some acrylic nails off and my nails were still brittle and torn up. So I ran to Walmart and bought $6 glue-on nails and they looked awesome!! It only took about 20-30 minutes to apply and they dried within a minute or two. I didn't have any problems with chipping or breakage for about 5 days and that's only b/c I was cleaning my classroom and being rough on my nails.

My students actually saw them and thought they were professionally done - they were french tips with a glossy shine that looked a lot like gel nails. When I confessed it was a $6 Walmart kit, they could hardly believe it! So that's when I was like, "yeah, I'm totally doing this again for my wedding."

It depends on your nails.  My nails were worse after I got shellac done then after acrylics.  I tried a couple different nail places over a long time period and still the same result, so I know if wasn't a freak thing.

I am SO hard on my nails.. I bite them normally. So I did some research and wanted shellac to help them grow out... but when I asked everyone looked at me like I was crazy. We are actually getting married in Utah and I found Shellac places everywhere...but that didn't do me any good since I wanted the Shellac to help me not bite my nails.

I tried at home one ones and I bite them off in a few days..LOL. It is a horrible habit I know :) but I have been biting them since I was 3 (I am 29 now) so it is hard to break a 26 year old habit.. I did well for a bit but the stress of work and wedding got to me.

I used to wear acrylic all the time.. but stopped when I got laid off 4 years ago..it has an expense that could easily be cut with no income.

Maybe when we move out of NM I will find a place that can shellac my nails :)
  • I'm doing a shellac french with a red strip under the white part (our colors are red and white).  My pedicure will be the same, except not shellac.

  • My MOH and I are going the day before the wedding for mani-pedi's. Im doing clear shellac with a touch of silver tint and purple toes. I have naturally long, strong nails and I generally just wear clear on them. Now my toes I am mad about changing the color a couple times a week. LOL. I am only doing shellac because I'm afraid of dinging them up when we decorate the hall the morning of the wedding.

I'm just painting my nails red.
  • I'm a nail biter too.  I had been using shellac to help me grow them out, and then after having my nails done every 2-3 weeks for about 2 months, my nails were really thin and brittle, so now, I am taking a break from the shellac.  I am taking hair, skin, and nails vitamin multiple times a day trying to strengthen them up.  If I can manage to stop biting my nails long enough to get the nails grown out for the wedding, I will have a shellac French manicure.  Otherwise, I will still go shellac and will need to go for a color.  Don't know what color though!!

After the wedding, I am taking a break from shellac for a few months!
  • I'm doing acrylic with a pink/nude shade.  Its by china glaze and called "Diva Bride"
  • i did a mint color for my bridal shower and everyone loved it including me.
i had done it before but not in a few months and I just thought it was adorable.
then last weekend, I took it off and put on this pale pink shade i was thinking about
for the wedding and i DO NOT like it.
it isn't as pale as I thought it was going to be. it's like bubble gum finger tips
so i want to do the mint again and maybe do it for the wedding too?
    FI was like no!
    lol
    so we will seeeeeeee!

this is all so exciting, i have a tummy ache.

Same as this, I am doing the solar french tip that has the sparkly white tip and my nail lady is going to add a red design to incorporate both my colors. Red and white.

bahaha, this is what i'm doing.  i tried it a month or so ago to see how it went and had the same reaction.  i did learn to use more glue though... and i'm not sure it was good for my nails in the long run.
but oh well.  cheap and easy and looks good.
