Hairstyles & Red Lipstick

Hi Ladies...
I had my first hair trial and second makeup trial yesterday.  My hair stylist was great - tried 5 hairstyles on me all in an hour and half! I'm thinking of wearing my hair half-up half-down for the wedding itself and then up for the reception. I was worried that my chunni would not hold so well with a half-up half-down hairstyle, but was pleasantly surprised at how it turned out....

How are you ladies wearing your hair?

Also, anyone else anti red lipstick for the wedding ceremony? I'm usually an eyeliner and gloss kind of girl and never have worn red lipstick. But I'm getting a lot of pressure from every makeup artist I meet that red lipstick is a must for indo brides... I still think I'll go with a nice neutral color. Any thoughts?

Red lipstick looks nice on some people when they wear bright colors.  That said, I don't wear it either.  I think I'm too pale for it and it just makes me look overly made up and like I'm pouting.

I don't think it's necessary, but just keep in mind that really light lipstick doesn't photograph that well.  I wore various shades of pink for all our events and it looked bright enough for the outfits without being overly red.  Also keep in mind the color of your outfits.  Only one of mine was actually true red with gold and no other color.  There might be a shade of pink that will match yours better than red.

This is my reddest outfit (engagement pics).  While looking for a pic where you can really see the lipstick I realized that photographers focus more on the eyes, but this lipstick was a cool neutral pink.

Also, I wore my hair entirely down for all the events at DH's request.  The dupatta and tikka were slippery, but not unmanageable.

Red lipstick is my favorite - I LOVE Max Factor's lipfinity. The stuff doesn't go ANYwhere. We used it on R's face once for costume makeup and it took us three makeup wipes and a lot of facewash to get it all off.

If you don't want to wear red - don't! I'd go with the shade you feel suits you best.

Oh. Hair. Duh. I prefer mine up because it's easier to manage that way. R likes it down. I'll probaby compromise - half-up so the top is out of my face, but it's still long and flowy.

The only red anything I was ever able to commit to was Nars' lipgloss in Misbehave. It's red without being over-done and is actually really sexy and soft.

I wore my hair up for the ceremony and all to the side for the reception.

As for red lip stick I feel I wear it more often.  I too usually only wear lip glosses in nude but now I like wearing pinks and reds...

I LOVE red lipstick and wear it when I want a dramatic look. That being said, if you're not the heavy makeup kind of girl, you don't want to look too different from yourself on your wedding day. You want to be a more polished, jazzed up version but still "you". There are a lot of alternatives to a red lip depending on what shade your outfit is. You can go more pink or even with the bronzes/browns.
How did you makeup trial go? Would you mind letting me know who your hair trial was with? (I'm a Boston bride too).

Another pretty suggestion is Mac's Viva La Glam lipstick and lip gloss.

Yes! I agree with this - I use Viva Glam V and it's pretty, it's enough to be something but not a lot, which is right up my alley.

Go with what you're comfortable with. You're going to be looking at the pictures of your wedding day for a long time :)

I'm wearing it in a bunish thing. All up. I have the inspriation in my bio, but I'm not having a Hindu ceremony so I don't have to worry about anything like that on my head.

I HATE red lipstick. It looks terrible on me. I'm going with something which just flatters me and looks classic. I don't want to look back at my pics and think I shouldn't have put that on. I know some Indian stylest will put on really light powder, I'm darker skinned and they try to lighten you up, as well as, red lipstick because THEY think it makes you attractive. My mom even tries to put pink on me and I refuse. Go with what will look the best on you!

I had the SAME worries...and during my trials I told them not to look to light. But then on my wedding day I told her "I know I told you to not make me took too light...but just match my skin tone and make me look normal".

She did do it lighter but it looked nice.  I realized that my hands would look darker than my face not b/c I'm darker toned but more so b/c of the mendhi!  (I realized this after looking at other brides in their photos)

You should always match skintone...otherwise youa re talking about matching the neck line, chest, hands, etc with a new colour.  It can be done - but you want to be you - just more glamourous in my opinion.  Red can work and it depends ont he shade and if you can pull it off.  Always test it on a trial.  I spend 3-4 hours doing different looks for brides all the time at the trial - just until they feel comfortable and I believe it is the best.  It truly is a collaboration betweent he artist and the bride.

I wore my hair up for the marriage, and let half off it down for the reception :) I have super curly hair, and instead of being all over, I decided to straighten my hair, and add curls at the end....

I did red lipstick for the wedding, and more of a maroon at the reception...

Here's the wedding one, actually for portraits, I took the dupatta off my head...

KP's pics made me think of something about hairstyles.  Wearing your hair up or mostly up and straight makes the jewelry show much better.  DH does not like me to wear my hair up (and I had my dupatta on the whole time anyway at the wedding), but the jewelry in my hair really doesn't show in the pictures.  Just something to consider when you choose your hairstyle.
