Wedding Woes

I'm psychic!

A few nights ago, I had this weird dream that I was having this heart-to-heart chat with my best friend about how some random guy friend is getting married, and I was all acting like Duckis's Corey Hart friend about it.  Because I was visiting bff at the time, and was really enjoying our nightly long walks and heart to hearts, I didn't think it was about anything but just that.  But today he announced, out of the blue, that he is getting married!  I feel like opening my own psychic hotline might be my key to fame and fortune.  My voice is a lot less annoying than Miss Cleo's, just so you know.

In other news, is anyone else a little underwhelmed with how Eureka is going out, and a little annoyed with White Collar for the five minutes it took Neal to get over Sara (when it took him at least a season and a half to get over lameass Kate)?

Re: I'm psychic!

  • I'm behind on Eureka as you know.  We just watched the one where Carter became super smart.

I actually figured they'd just run it like it was anything else, rather than a big climatic ending.  That's kinda how the series is.  Really, my love affair with this show is winding down anyway.  I really am only in it for the combined hotness of Jo and Zane and the story lines with Fargo and Henry.  I'm tired of the romance angle anymore.  I enjoyed it far more when it was silly crazy smart town.
  • I loved smart Carter.  But I agree that the love stories are kind of blech.  I thought it was interesting, the sort of weird alternate timeline manifestation of the reality that when you fall in love with someone they eventually are a completely different person, but that's kind of over, at least as far as how they're dealing with it.  I really thought they'd come back to the timeline thing, back to what happened to alternate Jo, Carter, Allison, Fargo, and Henry when the original-timeline ones showed up in the current timeline.  But one episode isn't much to do that, so I'm guessing they won't.

  • Yeah, I was always surprised they just left that there.

Smart Carter was fun.  I liked it b/c it kinda got back to "funny smart thing going wrong" rather than some long drawn out thing.  I'm tired of the Titan storyline and I'm really tired of the Holly storyline.  Figure it out already, this could've been one episode, maybe 2, not what...five now?
  • I loathe Holly.  Loathe her.

Maybe there will be some wild debate on the fate of those alternate carter et al characters, somewhere on the internet?  If not, we should do it here.

  • Hah!  I don't think I remember most of it well enough anymore.  I mean, they'd just be dead in the other timeline, it's not like they were duplicated or anything, right?

I honestly don't know.  I guess I need to rewatch, too.  As I remember it, though, they disappeared rather than died in their own timeline, which I guess makes room for this timeline's folks to reappear with a hearty wtf in the old timeline.

  • Yeah, but they'd have to write in something to make the old timeline come back to this one.  Plus, then they would all be duplicated except for those..um..four?  Shoot, Alison, Carter, Jo and Henry were the ones who flipped, right?
  • Also Fargo.

  • Adurr.  Here I keep talking about liking his new story line and I forget him on the list.
  • Maybe because the alternate timeline is so much kinder to him than the old one?

  • Oh yes.  He played such a doofus of "oh everything I touch goes wrong" that you were left to wonder HOW and WHY he was ever let into Eureka in the first place.  It's like they kept a little of his goofiness, but amped up the smarts so you finally did understand he belonged there.

The first few episodes he was in, i really thought he was the janitor or something, not an actual egghead.

I know, right?  I was shocked the first time they called him "Dr. Fargo".  I just figured he flunked out of grad school and became a Eureka lackey or something.

Can we talk a little about how thoroughly Old Timeline Zane sucked, and how awesome New Zane is?

  • I think of all of them, I've enjoyed his story and Jo's the most.  It's been a nice morph for Jo, who has kept her badassness, but has showed a great feminine side with Zane and her friendship with Carter (even if they tried to screw that up with the sudden attraction in real life versus the Titan made up timeline).
  • Okay, let's talk about the made-up timeline and how weird Allison and, to a lesser extent, Zane, were acting after that, and how little it made sense.  Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that if the Astraeus crew went MIA, a couple of years later Carter and Jo would have ended up together.  HOW is this a threat to Allison and Zane?  Even the program makes it abundantly clear that they would never have bothered settling for each other and eventually falling in love if their top choices hadn't already been eliminated.  And, more importantly, why wasn't Everyman Carter smart enough to say "Well, sure, Allison, maybe if my dream woman died, I'd eventually settle for someone else, but that's hardly relevant now"?  WHY?!

  • I think Everyman Carter did say that to her at one point, didn't he?

I have no idea why they were all weirded out by it.  I mean, I don't expect DH to stay celibate if I were to die or alone.  Hell, I doubt he COULD exist alone at this point in all seriousness.  We've been together for 12 years, you get used to being in a partnership.  Alison was a grown damn woman and should've manned up.

Zane I can see being a wee bit worried, b/c he didn't have Jo tied down yet.  They weren't engaged, they weren't even really totally together before Titan happened, so Carter was a real threat for him (even if he was with Alison, who was creating Carter into a threat by repeated rejection).

I guess that's what makes good tv romance?
  • White Collar is back? Now I have something to add to Hulu plus. We've been running out of shows.
