Wedding Woes

What's up for the weekend?

We're headed to my parents for Christmas 2.0.  10 adults and 8 kids in one house.  Good times.  At least there's liquor and a lot of food.

Re: What's up for the weekend?

  • I'm finally going SKIING in 3 hours. Fi bought me (and himself, *eyeroll*) skis for my birthday/christmas in the beginning of November. And since then, it has been to warm to ski.

Last time I was on skis I sprained my ankle and got to ride the red emergency sled down the mountain. Let's hope today is better :)

I'm trying to find a last-minute sitter so we can go to the Star Trek exhibition at the science museum tonight.

I'm a little unsure about staying out past midnight, given my sleep patterns this week, but I feel like I should and that I'll probably have a good time once we get there.

We'll see. One babysitter already said no.

  • Sam's run, working out, housework.  IL's are coming over for dinner tomorrow.

I might try and work on Sunday.  It's our busy season, so OT is mandatory.   Might as well get it out of the way.  One more reason I love working from home: it doesn't disrupt my weekend if I want to work a few hours.
  • DG - no offense, but I don't see how you could feel right leaving your kids with a sitter at bedtime.   Don't get me wrong, you absolutely deserve and need a night out - I'm just saying that unless you hate the sitter with the fire of 1000 suns, you should really get your kids better trained before leaving for the night.   But, that's just my opinion...

Anyway, we're spending the weekend doing boring stuff - - taking down the Christmas tree, getting new tires, cleaning the house...   blah, blah, blah.
  • H is leaving town SO I HAVE THE HOUSE TO MYSELF AGAIN. He was so proud that he cleaned. I was all, "It was clean when you got here. All that cleaning you did, was your mess."

I might help friend with her house some more, but I am over that. I am tired. I want to lay on my rear and eat my delicious antibioics.

    1. Fvck you, AF. Half the time you guys are telling me not to martyr myself for the kids and that I never do anything for me. You can't also tell me I can't leave them with a babysitter or that I'm not allowed to be gone past 7pm. I *pay* the babysitter to deal with my kids, whether it's cleaning up their poop or feeding them or sitting by the bed at night. The kids aren't being mean or spiteful or hurting the babysitter. One sleeps like an angel and even asks to go to bed when he is tired. The other just stays awake, usually very quietly. It's only frustrating for me as their mother, seeing as how I am responsible for their long-term health and well-being and have reason to worry about the long-term effects of sleep deprivation. That is not the babysitter's one-night concern.

Also, the babysitter does it for ONE night. I've been doing it for two. fvcking. years. I think they can handle it. If they can't handle ONE night of a kid who won't go to sleep, they don't need to be a babysitter at all, regardless of whether it's for my kid or not.

    2. They are much better for the babysitter. Our usual one has them in bed and asleep by 9. Which totally supports the WW argument that I am the problem, so I hope that makes you all happy.

    3. We DID get the babysitter, so we WILL be going to the exhibit. $20 total for both of us for the exhibit and $70+ for a babysitter. Take that for what it's worth, but I thought I'd mention it because I am also derided for not being willing to spend money on me or on a babysitter for me-related activities.

  • I'm glad you're going, but holy hell at $70 for a sitter!  How many hours does that cover?
  • Oh my.

DG - I don't think it is irresponsible in the least to hire a babysitter.  Most kids are better for a sitter than for their own parents.

Just remember that what any of us here know about your life comes from what you have told us.  You are VERY hard on yourself and probably tend to report your worst faults and exagerate those.  You tell us all the time that you are a bad parent, that you are too fat, too unorganized, your kids are holy terrors after dark.  I take it all with a grain of salt knowing that none of those are true...but you just might be convincing some people.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

approx 6pm-1am, so 7 hours. Quite a while.

I've often thought I should hire a babysitter specifically for bedtime every night, just so the boy can get enough sleep.

    And thanks, Zsa
