father's dance

I need some help choosing a father/daughter dance song. We have a very good relationship, no issues with each other. I don't want something that people would expect to hear, as in what is common for a father/daughter. Off the top of my head, I just can't come up with anything. I'm running out of time!!!!

Re: father's dance

  • what about "Butterfly Kisses"?
  • hi there!  one of the best weddings i went to was my cousin's and her father daughter dance was to the song from fiddler on the roof "sunrise sunset" and it got all of us in tears.  also went to a wedding where the bride had brown eyes and her father daughter dance was more upbeat to "my brown eyed girl"i am dancing to "somewhere over the rainbow" by israel kamakawiwo'ole, it is a hawaiian version of the song.  but i have also seen some really great funny father daughter dances, like to an old rock and roll song that maybe you and your dad used to sing to?good luck!
  • Why not let him pick?  He might surprise you.  I told my dad he could pick anything he wanted, except "Butterfly Kisses."  He immediately got bummed, and I told him that I didn't want to puke on his shoes during our special moment.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • The day I got engaged my dad told me he was picking the father/daughter song and that I had no say in the matter. lol Didn't bother me, he has good taste. I just found out through my mom (who wasn't supposed to tell me) that the song will be 'I loved Her First' by Heartland. Good song :)
  • My dad and I danced to "You're Gonna Miss This" or something like that.  It's a country song.  My dad is totally not the type to go pick out a song, but I asked him to come up with some ideas and that's what he suggested.  If he hadn't, it would have been Shout, b/c that's what I remember dancing with him to when I was little.Do you have a song that reminds you of him?
  • Our DD also danced to I Loved Her First".  It was really pretty emotional!
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Ditto PPs, is there a song that perhaps reminds you of your dad? One that you 2 sang together danced to when you were little? I'm using the Hawaiin "Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" (FI is also doing the mother/son dance at the same time). I picked this song because when I was a little kid, The Wizard of Oz was my absolute favorite movie. My dad always likes to tell the story about how when I was 5 and we had the chicken pox together, we spent the 2 weeks we were sick camped out on the couch eating lemon ice and watching that movie literally a million times.

  • Thanks girls. He wants no part of picking it out himself, because he couldn't come up with anything either. Keep the ideas coming!
  • My dad and I danced to "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. It made us both cry when we listened to it. We have a close relationship and he has done SO much for me throughout my life so it had a lot of meaning.
  • I am a daddy's girl through and through! Just the thought of my dad walking me down the isle and giving me away and then the dance...it all gets me teary eyed already! There are a few REALLY good songs! Butterfly Kisses is an oldie but a goodie! Steven Curtis Chapman has a newer one out called "Cinderella" that is sooo sweet! I loved Her First by Heartland like some gals said above is a good country song Many girls and dads like Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight which is very classy and fun to dance to Billy Joel's Lullabye is usually a daddy's favorite but not too common at weddings. Amy Grant's My Father's Eyes Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder... These are all ones that my dad and I are looking at... honestly, there's a lot you can pick from so I suggest you decide the tone or mood you want to set and pick a song with that sort of music because there are a lot of good lyrical songs to chose from!
  • Nice suggestions everyone. I am also having a hard time finding a song and this is really helpful

  • We're going a little outside the box on this one... I want to do "Miracle" by the Foo Fighters.  It's acoustic, so not totally a hard rock flavor. It's a very cute song.
  • Unforgettable As Time Goes By Angel Eyes (Jim Brickman) You Belong to Me (Patsy Cline) Your Song (Elton John)
  • How about "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan?
  • Thanks for the help! My brain has seemed to shut down from being overwhelmed for the past month lol. I think I am going to use Cinderella. I had never heard it until it was suggested here, so I looked it up on limewire. Perfect! It made me tear up and I think dad will love it too.
  • If you have a classic rock loving dad and you were a bit of a wild child a great song is "Tenderness on the Block" Warren Zevon.  A friend of mine used it and it was great.  Another is Fathers and Daugthers -- Paul Simon.
  • Why would the lyrics of Bob Dylan's Forever Young be a problem???
