Confession: we don't have a budget

We want to keep it under $10,000 but I've not really done a real budget.

Undecided

We don't either. But not because we have endless amounts of money to spend! (I wish!) Honestly, it's just because I don't know where to start! Now that I've booked the resort and I know how much it will cost I really should sit down and make a budget so I have something to hold myself accountable to.
  • A budget doesn't have to be set in stone.  I basically made a checklist of all the things I thought we would need to book/purchase and then put how much I'd like to spend on them.  This list has changed a lot over time, but I've found it has worked really well for helping me figure out what I need and how much to save.
  • We don't have a budget either.  We know how much we want to spend.  We are also trying to keep it under 10k.  Lucky for me FI keeps up with the finances so I'm pretty sure we will stay under budget.  :)
  • Budgets are only good if you actually stick to them.  I'm pretty sure that ours was supposed to be $15K and we spent $25K.  Ooops!
  • yeah, I know I won't stick to it and if it were up to FI our budget would be $100

    Tongue out
  • ha tinkertoy, that sounds like my FI

  • We don't have a budget either. We are just aiming to stick around $10,000-$12,000. Lets see how well I do with that. Eek! :)

  • WE just set our budget this weekend. We sat down and figured out exactly how much each of us could put aside each month until the wedding day + whatever we have in our accounts. Following the ala carte list the resort gave us plus the reception coast really helped us to figure out how much we need.
  • We didn't have a budget per se either, but wanted to keep it unde 10k.  I think we did pretty well sticking to it actually!  (Pats self on the back..).  DH hates spending money though, so I couldn't even discuss our budget with him because he thought our budget should be zero, haha.
  • Danielle that's how my FI is.  I just pay for stuff and try not to tell him or else he will get really stressed out!  Our budget is 10K... I'm doing good at sticking to it!

  • YAY for no-budget brides!! Not to be confused with brides with unlimited budgets, unfortunately.
  • I agree with the PP's.  We don't have a budget either and if it were up to FI we'd get married at our local courthouse and call it good.  But we too are trying to keep it under 10K.  Right now we are...but that's excluding our honeymoon.
If only I could win the lottery....
  • we are in the same boat as you guys Our goal is to keep it under $10K and so far so good.  I made a list of things we need to buy and such and put an amount of what I think we should spend on certain items and it seems to be working.  So far we are under on everything.

  • We don't have one either, to me, having a budget puts more stress on everything and Lord knows, I don't need anymore of that.  We are spending what we need to spend to make sure we have everthing we want and need and whatever that number ends up being, we will deal with it.  We do not use credit cards so we don't have to worry about going into debt over it.
