It's too quiet here...

What's up this weekend?  Not much for me.  I'm debating whether I want to have (yet another) Friday night at home, or try to go do something.  Honestly, giving up alcohol for lent has really changed Friday nights for me!  Last night I had a work dinner at a super fancy, expensive restaurant that I've never been to.   The wine looked and smelled so.darn.good.  I was SO tempted, but I resisted.  Not sure how much more will power I have left, so I might just have to stay home tonight.  Or maybe I'll go shopping like last week, and hopefully this time it won't end in tears!  What about you ladies?  Calypso, are you going to enjoy some vodka tonight?  Have an extra one for me!

Re: It's too quiet here...

  • It has been quiet. Not much going on this weekend for me. Well, FI is visiting me tomorrow (yayayayay!), but mostly I'm just studying for an exam, writing a paper, and doing other such homework.

  • Today I spent two hours shoveling the drive way all alone :/ Luckily my neighbor came out and snow-blowed the last 10 feet for me :D I got about 100 feet done all by myself....

Can you grab some friends and go to like Friendly's for milkshakes? lol

  • Resisting wine is hard! Good practice for pg ;-)

We're going on our first date tomorrow since JHL's birth, to see La Boheme. (Tickets were H's Christmas gift from me.) I'm excited but also ambivalent about leaving him. I've left him before but a)not for as long and b)not for something so frivolous-feeling. This also means I have to pump extra tonight. yuk.

  • I was just thinking this morning how quiet it's been here this week - I've tried to think of a good question/topic to spark a discussion, but I got nothing :)  I've been super tired this week, which is 100% my fault because I've been staying up late every night reading.  I started the Divergent/Insurgent books since I finished book 5 of the game of thrones series, and they're pretty good.

We listed our condo officially on Wednesday evening, and I already got a call yesterday to have a showing today!  H and I have gone to a few open houses but haven't done much other looking, we should probably start on that soon.

H's brother and SIL and the kids are in town for the weekend, I'm sure we'll get together with them tonight for dinner and hanging out.   I guess my little niece (my goddaughter) started walking recently, so I'm excited to see that!  Not much else planned the rest of the weekend - I plan to sleep in, and maybe go shopping for the ever-elusive black skinny pants!
  • im hitting the gym tonight and tomorrow, taking the cat to the vet, and buying a new coach purse wtih a coupon i have.  otherwise, i am not doing anything as im saving up calories and crazy for next weekend (headed into boston for patty's day weekend!!!)
  • Caitriona, I'm sure you're miss JHL, but I hope you still enjoy your night out!  That sounds like a great time!

Calypso, you've been so good about exercising!  I'm so impressed.  I've been terrible.  I finally lost a couple pounds and inches, and then I just stopped working out.  So bad.  But honestly, I just keep getting sick!!  Between my maybe-ulcer and the cold that just kept going, I wasn't trying to hit up the gym.  And now it's good ol' AF keeping me lazy.   Oh, and I think I'm starting on a new cold.  Great!

  • My shower was last weekend, so the first thing on my agenda for this weekend is to get all of that stuff put away.  My shower was in Buffalo and I currently live in Pittsburgh, so when we got home last Sunday night, all the gifts just got piled into my living room.

Saturday night, we are going to the "Covenant of Love" night at our church.  They started a new montly marriage ministry and they invited engaged couples to be a part of it.  I'm really excited because the group ranges in age from newlyweds and fairly young to couples that have been married 50 years.  It is a great mix of people and has been very interesting and insightful during the discussion time.
  • Resa, im down 22 pounds and several inches!  i feel so good!
  • That sounds like a great ministry!  I would love to get involved in something like that someday!

  • Calypso - how long have you been working out?  What sorts of work outs are you doing?  That is amazing!

I need to get working out.  My biggest issue is that I leave my house at 6:30 and get home at the earliest 6:00.  (I HATE PITTSBURGH TRAFFIC...)  I need to find something I enjoy doing that I'll still have the energy to do once I get home.  My favorite is kick boxing, but the places near me all have classes in the AM or right at 5 or 6.
  • My Saturday is pretty jammed up - I help teach Hula every Saturday morning from 8:30 - 11:30. Then I have my shower tomorrow afternoon.  I'm also thinking of trying to talk FI into going to an evening confession that I found at a different parish, since I won't be able to go to our normal one, which will be happening during the shower.  We get the keys to our apartment next weekend, so I guess all the shower gifts will pile up into my already overcrowded room (live with my grandparents) or will take up temporary residence either in the living room or their already crowded garage.

Calypso - Congrats on the weight loss!!!  I've been slacking a lot lately, and with the wedding just weeks away, I'm just hoping not to gain anything between now and then.  It's frustrating, because at one point I had lost over 50 lbs, then over the past 2 years I gained all of it back. :(  What workouts are your fave?  Do you have any favorite healthy recipes?

Jenjlgsings - That ministry you go to sounds wonderful!  Sounds like something that should spread farther and wider.  Such a blessing to have it so near you.

Resa - I think I can sort of understand the temptation.  I gave up painting my nails for Lent (in addition to some other time sacrifices).  I didn't think it would be a big deal, but I really miss doing fun colors, and I wish I could paint them for the shower tomorrow... ah well.  It's all about keeping the focus where it belongs, true?

One thing to remember: The wedding is just one day. The marriage is all the rest of them.

  • Oh man! I had a crazy week at work. I thought I was going to be able to go to a new yoga class tonight and have a relaxing night from there.... but I ended up getting tons of work. But then I went to yoga anyway, because, well, I wanted to.

I tried this new "antigravity yoga" class. You use a fabric swing to support you and it really helps you improve standing poses like warrior 3. We did lots of inversions where you basically are flipped upside down hanging in the swing. It was really fun and my back feels awesome. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make it a Friday regular thing.

However, when I got back to the locker room I had all sorts of e-mails. So I'm back at the office. But as soon as I got here, everyone decided that actually it could all wait. It has been a trying day indeed!

FI has also been extremely stressed at work. He's already home now and said that he wants to give me my birthday gift early tonight, because we need some joy in our lives. I have zero qualms with that!!! Hope he didn't get me anything big; he spoils me enough every day.

    Happy weekend!!!

  • im working out with a personal trainer 2 x per week then hitting the gym 3 to 4 times per week on my own.

the biggest thing was diet - i am eating clean.  no junk, no processed food, no added salt and avoidng sugar, and im sticking to 1400 cals a day, which if you eat the right things is a TON of food - sometimes i struggle to get all 1400 cals in.

im at a point now where i can have a cheat day on occasion, but i actually feel so gross after from eating food my body isnt used to that its a good deterrent.

the other biggest thign is weight training - you cant do just cardio which many people (particularly females) think is enough.

i have about 15 pounds to go until i reach my goal.
  • oh, i started November 30th, so a little over 3 months.
