Catholic Weddings

Affidavit's

Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking for quite some time but I do have a question. I have recently beome Catholic (completed RCIA this year) and we are getting married in our home church. I just booked our church for the wedding and found out that we need affidavit's from 2 people who know us well. My question is my parent's are not Catholic and I was wondering if this is a problem or if they can just write a short blurb to the church and that will be ok?

Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

I'm in your same position. My deacon said they don't have to be catholic at all.

Ditto.  They don't have to be Catholic. It's more for a making sure you're not being forced into the marriage for any reason

<div>This.  My mom was able to just call the parish office and complete it over the phone.  They ask the same "free to marry" questions they asked you and your FI at your meeting with the priest.</div>

DH's mom signed his and she is not Cathlic.  It's ok.

We had to have ours signed by a Catholic priest, which was difficult for her since she didn't know any.  She went to like 6 churches before someone would help her.  They kept saying, "I don't know what that form is." Whatever.  Finally, I called my Deacon and he called a few churches in the area to find one that would sign the dang form.

<div>My mom and I had the same problem.  She is not Catholic AND lives hundreds of miles away in Mississippi, and every time she would come visit me, the pastoral associate at the church where we're getting married would be out of town, so we couldn't go see her.  So she works near a church in Jackson and when I went to visit I called to make an appointment with their priest.  They told me to come over at x time, and when we arrived, no one answered at the rectory and no one was in the church.  I was sorely disappointed.  Finally the pastoral associate just interviewed her on the phone.</div><div>
