David's Bridal?

Hi all! This is my first time posting, but I've been reading for awhile - you ladies have some fantastic ideas and tips!I just got engaged, getting married August 2010. I started looking for wedding dresses recently and fell in LOVE with one at David's Bridal, right before a friend warned me that she'd known several people who had had nightmare situations with the alternations done through them. I'm looking for your input - is this typical? Or have you all had good experiences with dresses from DB?Thanks!!

I heard the same thing about almost every wedding boutique. I bought my dress at David's and the only advice I can give you is to try on a dress and if it fits, makes sure you get that size and don't let them talk you into ordering a bigger dress. I didn't have that problem at all, in fact the lady helping me actually told me I could go a size Smaller and not have to wear a bra. Which thank goodness I didn't b/c my dress was TIGHT! Good Luck.

I, too, have heard complaints about DB-- but I think it varies greatly depending on the location.  My BMs and I went to DB in Kenwood, and had Kathy as our "consultant" (she was the one who fetched dresses, helped dress me, etc.) SHE WAS AWESOME!!  She is the sole reason my shopping experience at DB was so great. Now, I took the recs from brides on here NOT to have my alterations done through DB... I'm going to Pauline Miller for that (and so far, the price has been unbeatable!) HTH!

I got my dress at Davids in Florence.. Kate helped me and was super sweet and very honest when it came to how the dresses looked on (yeah I went by myself to get my dress cause the way my family and friends act you would think that 90 mins away is a different country)... I've heard horror stories about the alterations at any Davids... I know the pricing is higher than other places I plan on having mine done elsewhere (just a small hem and taking up the spaghetti straps)

I bought my dress at davids bridal. I ended up going elsewhere for my alterations.  DB was very expensive and I too had heard bad things so I wanted to go with someone I trusted.

I bought my dress at David's and am having the alterations done by Pauline, but FSIL had hers done at David's in Kenwood and I was surprised at how well they were done--her dress was let out probably two inches and I couldn't even tell.  I don't know what the cost was, though.

My alteration experience through DB was "ok" but if I'd have known better, I would have just taken it elsewhere.  Just because you buy it there does NOT mean you have to get it altered there...and I would highly suggest just taking it elsewhere.

I will agree with all the other posts. I originally thought I would have a dress made for me, but ended up getting one at David's. I'm a big girl, and it ended up being less expensive to buy an already made gown. That being said - I would never, ever have a dress altered there. They did my friends, and it was awful so they had to re-alter it. And it cost almost as much as her dress! Definitely call the seamtresses others have recommended - it will most likely be less expensive AND correct the first time!

You all are fantastic! I've heard of her before, so I'll probably end up seeing if she'll do my dress - thanks for the tips! Laura

I bought my dress at DB, but am having Margarett Oldfield do my alterations.  She's amazing, my dress had to be taken in 2 inches and you can't tell.  She's the nicest lady!  I would def. recommend her to anyone! :)
