has anyone used any good fitness DVD's?

i do yoga almost every day because it is what my mind and body needs, but i would love to start an extra cardio and strength training routine that i can do at home.

i am really curious about insanity. i have also heard that jillian michael's DVD's are great.

has anyone had any luck with any of these or other dvds? i just want something really hard that i could do as a quick morning workout (maybe 30min or so each). i just realized how little time i have left to get skinny before the wedding......yikes!

  • I do the 30 day shred on my off nights from kickboxing.  You should try it out I like it :)

  • I second the 30DS...it's only like 30 minutes total, and that includes warmup in the beginning and (mediocre) stretching at the end

  • I like the 30 day shred, as well. I also have fun with dance DVDs. My favorite so far is the Julianne Hough cardio ballroom. It's more fun than it sounds!

    LOVE 30DS, but I think her Ripped in 30 is a little more challenging/fun.

    I'm a huuuuge fan of anything Beach Body... my favorites are P90x, the original beach body workouts, Insanity, and turbo fire/turbo jam... such amazing workouts and super tough.  One downside.. they are also really pricey....

  • I do insanity. But I don't follow their schedule, it's supposed to be for 60 days but if it is nice outside, I just run. If it's yucky outside, I'll just do one session of insanity. I believe that as long as I'm exercising, it'll be ok! :) My friends have done it and they've gotten good results!

  • I had the Jillian Michaels Yoga/Pilates video and it makes me sweat up a storm. It's about an hour, but there were some really advanced moves in it that I just couldn't do so I'd modify them. I really should pull it out and start doing it every day again, but seriously can not get motivated to do that. I got a 6 pound weight ball and have been doing that every day and throwing in some yoga moves as stretches instead.

    Butterfly, I wanted to ask: When do you practice yoga? I find that when I go in the morning, I am EXHAUSTED all day and I can't make it to the night ones because of work. The classes I like are at like 6pm and I am always at work later than that.

  • yes, thanks so much ladies!! lots of the Jillian DVDs are like 5-8 bucks each on amazon, i am totally going to order the 30 day shred and the ab video that she has :) and maybe i can convince fiance to try insanity with me....

    bridetobe i usually go to the 7p.m. classes. i am NOT a morning person and my body just doesn't do what i want it to at 6am!! i also don't work the hours that you do so sometimes i can make it to 5:30 classes. it is also easier when you aren't in NYC and your work is two minutes from your yoga studio and your yoga studio is two minutes from your apartment :)
  • butterfly - Ok, thanks. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to just try to escape a few days a week and INSIST on going, even if it means I have to come back to work afterwards...I HATE not being able to go! I haven't been in 2 weeks!

  • yes, go! you need it!!!! i took 3 days off during the super bowl and i SWEAR, i felt like a different person when i hadn't practiced for that long. i don't mean to make yoga sound so cult like...it really just makes SUCH a difference. 

    and make sure you get to classes on the weekends - that's when it is the easiest to schedule around. and don't let that boss of yours talk you into working on saturdays and ruin it!
  • I definitely get to go on Sat/Sun but this past weekend was a total bust and thsi coming weekend I'll be with fiance in PA doing wedding-related stuff. :( HAVE to make a point to go!

  • K888 - i love that you have heard of Turbo Jam! I preach Turbo Jam when ever anyone asks about what i do to keep fit and no one ever knows what i'm talking about lol

    Turbo Jam is awesome! There is a variety of workout lenghts with importance on cardio and strenght training. I have been doing it for 4 years and with a healthy diet i now weight what i did in high school :D
