Pros & Cons of a January wedding?

Hi Ladies :)

The date the FI & I picked out orginally was in November 2011, but we're now considering the first/second weekend of January.2012. Can you think of any pros or cons to this? Being so close to Christmas, I could see traveling for people out of town as being a possible issue.

What do to girls think?

You say that a con might be that it's close to Christmas, but in my opinion so is November.  It's Thanksgiving, then Christmas and people are starting holiday shopping, etc.

If you do it early enough in January, maybe family can plan to just come for the new year and stay until the wedding or something?  Just a thought.   Other than that, I'm not sure that I can find any cons, really.

Other then the holidays I really can find any cons either.... and like Candis said November is just as close to the holidays as January so either one would be the same... I do see a pro though that January is out of hurricane season so it means less rain :)

The FI and I also changed our date to January. The concerns I had were that it was close to Christmas and cold weather.

Yes, November is also close to a holiday but the people we are inviting are far more likely to travel during Christmas than thanksgiving.  I was concerned that people would have to choose either traveling during Christmas or in January for my wedding.

Ultimately, we decided that by sending out the STD early enough, we are giving our friends and family ample time to plan their holiday travel. As far as the weather, we're going to include weather info on our website and invitation so it would be their responsibility to dress accordingly.  (we'll have outdoor heaters on hold just in case it gets too chilly at night)

All in all, I think January is a great month!  If you're having a ceremony and reception outside like me then January is great because the sun sets later than it would in November (well after DST). HTH

VanLu26 put it great. I wanted a winter chilly wedding and my ceremony is outside. We also have heaters on reserve if it is too cold for Floridians

I'm a November bride but I can't think of anything that makes it any better than January. It's you and your husband's special day and those that care and love you will be there regardless :)

I'm a Jan bride and these are my concerns:
    • If you have people coming from up north, they may not make it due to a snow storm, leaving you to pay for their unoccupied seats (could get very expensive).
    • It seems to be chillier and a bit windier.
    • Higher priced hotel rooms (it's apparently peak travel season)

    However, the pros are:
    • Cooler weather
    • No hurricanes
    • It's not as popular so it'll be easier to book vendors
    • You should be able to book at the previous years rates for most vendors
