Setting a date & saving money

Just wondering which came first for you.
Did you set a date and then start saving the money or did you already have the money (or most of it) saved and then set your date?

    well, i had $1000 saved up for nothing really so when he proposed, i decided that to be the wedding fund lol

    we started saving money about 5 months before my FI even proposed.  We were saving the money for anything, not the wedding really.  

    After he proposed we set a date (originally 10-6-12)  but then after talking with my family we moved the date up to 4-16-11, and started saving even more!  It comes out of our paychecks every week automatically into our joint savings.

    We set a date already and are saving money, and he hasnt even proposed yet!!! lol We figure if we have a date in mind, it will drive us to get things done, otherwise, we dont have a plan, and nothing gets done.Cool
