I've seen a few "Easter Engagement" stories posted, but I wanted to share mine because it was so incredibly special and such a surprise.
My boyfriend (fiance now!) and I went to church with my parents Easter morning and then went back to my parents' house for lunch. We then headed over to his parents' house for dinner. Sound like a crazy time? It was. But so goes the story of all our holidays pretty much. Not to mention a crazy amount of food! But I digress. So we get to his parents' house and his brother wasn't there yet. And he was kind of crabby about it. But I didn't think anything of it, after all, I did make him get up early on a Sunday.
So as soon as his brother got there, we sat down in the living room to open our Easter baskets. We each had one from his parents and then Brandon and I each had a basket to exchange with each other. We've done it every year we've been together. So before we started opening our baskets from his parents, he hands me my basket. It was packed, but the thing I noticed on top was a plastic egg with a note that said "Open Me First". So I opened it, and inside was a box. I opened the box and there was the ring. When I looked up, he was down on one knee.
I was in shock. Sure, we had talked about getting married, and I had even been bugging him about it not 2 days before. But I had never expected that it was going to happen that day. You know, every girl has it all planned out in their head of how the proposal is going to go. Boy gets down on one knee, pops the question, girl gives smooth answer, they live blissfully ever after. Well, I was no different. I had it all planned out how it was going to go. Instead what I got was squeaking (yes, I squeak), tears, and speechlessness. Not me at my most eloquent. But it worked. I think there was a lot of hugging in there too. And at some point, I managed to say yes.
After I managed to speak again, I looked a little closer at the ring and looked at the ring box. I was then told this story. This was the ring his grandpa gave to his grandma on their prom night in May 1949. The box was the original ring box. She passed away about 5 years ago and her wish was that her ring would go to the first grandson to be married. His parents gave the ring to Brandon to give to me. I am so honored to be wearing her ring and to marry such an amazing man.
