Photo & Videographers

So I'm trying to gather pricing on photographers and noticed many are offering discounts if we also booked them for the videos.  It seems like a good idea but I wondered if anyone had opinions either way.  Is it better to go with separate vendors or take advantage of the discounts?  Any suggestions would be helpful.

TIA!

I'd go with separate vendors if you can help it.  Video and still photography are VERY different trades.  Chances are, if a vendor is good at one, they aren't very good at the other.

8 years ago, I had a friend who worked at a pretty big photo studio here in the area. She use to tell me they offered video, but the people they had videotaping we're mostly trainess and that the studio was just looking for extra income, and to stop brides from going and hiring a good videographer, because many times, it cut into the photo studios chances of selling more photos. She left that company 2 years ago and started her own. It was amazing to hear her stories of how greedy some of these companies are and how they try to rake us over the coals:( Our video and photographer own their own companies. Ask you friends who they used.

I agree with the previous comments. To me, many of the vendors that try to provide several different services are in it for the same reasons mentioned above. In my opinion - do one thing but do it really really well! Of course there are exceptions to this rule.

There are so many great indivudual photographers and video people at various budgets, you shouldn't have any trouble findind some people if you ask for rec's.

    Good luck!
