Any iTunes/iPod guru's?

My personal laptop died on me (fried the power port so now it won't even turn on). My brother was able to pull everything off of my hard drive but for some reason, my iTunes library didn't come with it. So, I'm trying to dump my music onto my work PC from my iPod. iTunes keeps telling me I can only sync my iPod with 1 computer, which makes sense, but that compuer is out of commission. Does anyone know how I can get my library off of my iPod onto my new PC and imported into iTunes???

This is such a crazy process, I went through it when I got a new computer. In order for me to get my iTunes from my original laptop (dell) onto my new computer (mac) I had to do something on the dell in the iTunes program (import/export... something) and then do it on the Mac as well. I found instructions online when I went to do it, but it took like three tries for me to actually get it to work. Try searching on the Apple website or Mac Forums.Whatever you do, don't sync your iPod to the computer at work, that will take everything off your iPod and will just use the work iTunes. Sorry, I'm not much more help, but I feel for ya, this process sucks!

Think of it like Microsoft Word.  Your files aren't saved IN word but rather they are opened using Word.  It is the same concept for iTunes.  Your music is saved on your computer in your iTunes folder (usually program files > iTunes > iTunes music?).Once you find the location of the music on the computer, you will need to import the music into your iTunes library which is really easy to do.  Open iTunes and somewhere in the taskbar (I believe it is the first tab) there is an open to import music from a folder.  Select the folder you wish and import. The instructions may be a little off since I am at work and don't have iTunes but it's the general idea.

The problem is that I can't find the folder...I am going to look again when I get home. He dumped everything onto an external hard drive for me and I thought I grabbed everything but when I go into "my music" (which is where I thought it all was saved), it's not there. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...thanks for the tips ladies.  I've noticed Apple likes to make things extremely complicated when they really don't need to be.

you are CORRECT! apple love to make things more difficult than they ever should be by not really giving you any real control when it comes to hardware and software. that's how they make the moneys. when my macbook died after 9 months (yep.) i found some program on apple's website that copied everything on my ipod into itunes. (tipped off my a mac store employee) i bookmarked it, but it apparently doesnt exist anymore. It was called "music rescue." TBH. i would go into a mac store and talk to someone face to face. they are typically smug douchebags, but if you tell them what's up and find a nice one they'll give you the scoop. otherwise i'd search the mac forums. i WOULD NOT try to put your music onto a PC if you're just going to go back to your Mac laptop if it gets fixed. and i would not put it on a work PC. I'd just wait until you can get your laptop back/to a mac computer that you have personal access to (rather than professional). sorry i dont have the fix for you. :o/

This happened to me years ago, and I remember finding some kind of (free) software called Ipod to PC (or something like that). It did exactly what you are looking for - took all your tunes off your ipod and put them onto your PC. Now, I do recall that it didn't save my playlists or playcounts or something like that. But it did save all my music. You can always ask the people on here too if you can't find a solution: http://forums.macrumors.com/And I have to say I have had much more luck (so far) with my Mac vs. my annoying PC that I had to rebuild and fix just about every year! :)

If you're willing to pay a little money, you can use a program called iGadget which will allow you to transfer your files easily from your iPod to your computer. I've used it and it worked really well. I thikn it was only about $20 or so, well worth it!
