Gibbet Hill Reviews & Suggestions

My fiance and I are strongly concidering a winter (Jan 2012) wedding and reception at Gibbet Hill in Groton MA.  We visited last weekend and loved the location.  We were looking for a barn-type atmosphere to accomodate our big families (200 invite list).

We are looking for some reviews.  It is at the top of our price range, but were surprised that after the off-season discounts for a Jan wedding, it was compable to other venues in MA and southern NH that we liked (Zorvino's Vineyard & Harrington Farm).  Also curious if others were able to negotiate any price changes?

We would love to hear what others think.  Thanks!

    Hello,
We had an amazing reception at Harrington Farm ! I live in Groton and we picked Harrington because it was somewhat cheaper than Gibbet. The food was some of the best I've had for wedding food <: even though it was our wedding and all I'm not being biased at all!
I have a ton of pics you can see if you are interested and can answer any questions you have about Harrington <:
Didn't negotiate price changes but we got married in September and even with 5 hour open bar it was really reasonable!

I've actually been a guest at weddings at both Harrington Farm and Gibbett Hill!  Both were beautiful venues, good service and good food.  At Harrington our friends did various stations for dinner.  At Gibbett Hill our friends did the turkey dinner and I do remember it being really good.  I think they are both beautiful locations so you can't go wrong with either one.

Have you looked at Smith Barn? A friend of ours got married there 2 months ago and they had great deals. I saw it in the Knot magazine as well (the one that is on newsstands now).

We had our reception at GH, and we found that there was no negotiation on price from the published list of prices.  They were more than fair, and at no time did we think that they misrepresented anything.  We did a consumption bar which worked to our advantage.  They followed the contract to a T, and there were no hidden charges.  The one thing I would caution you on is their list of recommended vendors.  We found a lot of them to be less than desirable.  We didn't end up using any of them.  Any other questions - give a shout.
