Maid or Matron?

My mom is my MOH.  My question is, is her title "maid" of honor or "matron" of honor?  Now, let me explain...My mom & dad are divorced.  My mom re-married, but she is now separated from my stepdad.  They are getting divorced next year.  So, since technically my mom is still married to my stepdad, should her title be "matron" of honor?  But, since she is single because she and my stepdad are in the process of a divorce, is she my "maid" of honor?I don't know!  Thoughts, please.  TIA!

I would go with matron. It sounds motherly.

I don't think someone who's been married twice and has a daughter old enough to be married qualifies as a maid.

What pp's said.  Her age and the fact that she is your mother qualifies her as matron imo.

Personally, I don't care how old I am, or how married I am, I don't ever want to be referred to as a Matron of anything.  I'd ask your mom if she has a preference.  Obviously Matron is "correct" but I don't really think anyone will care (except maybe Grandma).

I guess I'm just worried about people thinking "well she's not married" when I say she's my "matron" of honor.  But you're right, just the fact that she's my mother makes her qualify as "matron."  So guess we settled that one pretty quickly  :-)Thanks ladies!

I'm pretty sure once someone is married, they are a matron for life, regardless of continued marital status.

I would go with matron as well, maid sounds like she is young, plus she has been married.

Oh I had a thought, honor attendant.

MAid means never married If she has ever been married before a woman is a matron even if divorced or widowed Your mom is a matron That said if it bugs her and she wants to be called maid of honor roll with it

Sydney - good point.  BTW, my cousin's name is Sydney!  :-)  It's a pretty name.NCV - thanks for the idea of "honor attendant," i've never heard that one before.  But I think I'll stick with "matron" because I think Mom would prefer that over "honor attendant."

My sister was my only attendant.  She's married, but hated being described as a "matron."  So we came up with a new title - Best Lady.  She loved it!

CCBelle - I LOVE the "Best Lady" title!  Best Man & Best Lady sounds great.  I'm going to suggest that to Mom...I think she'll really like that idea.  Thanks for your help!!!!

In France and Spain, once women are no longer young women, they are automatically refered to as madame or senora rather than madamoiselle or senorita. So I don't think her technical marital status has much to do with it.
