New York-New York City

Incorporating a "New York Theme"

Hi everyone.  I'm getting married at Battery Gardens located in Battery Park City, and the room overlooks the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc.  I want to incorporate some New York-themed items for the wedding.  Invitations are already done, so I was thinking more of placecardholders or favors.  I definitely don't want it to be gimmicky or over the top, but maybe just one or two elements.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I can't find anything online that isn't cheesy.

    - What about doing table names as postcards of NYC landmarks.  You can put them in a frame.

    - For escort cards, you could do mini yellow taxis or even apples (Big Apple).

    - You can send guests home with a newspaper, bagel, and coffee.

    - OOT bags or Favors can be local NYC items - black & white cookies, bagel chips, local soda, etc.

I got married in Miami (hometown) on South Beach and I wanted to incorporate a NYC theme b/c we live here in NYC.

We did: our programs had a skyline theme at the bottom - minimal and classy.

We did NYC postcard table "numbers" - we put them on mini easels and spray painted the easels silver

My candy buffet had an engagement photo of us having hot dogs at the NYC hot dog carts

Our sign in table included a card box with NYC photos on it and our engagement photos (very nyc)

Our reception introduction songs were "NY NY" and Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind"

Our table menus also had the nyc skyline theme at the bottom of the menu

I can send you photos if you'd like. Just let me know

    We used a few elements:
Our tables were NYC landmarks, with vintage postcard images for each one.  The place cards had matching images. (I just googled NYC Vintage postcard to get the images)
Our favors were CD's (which may be out of vogue, now, 5 yrs later) but we had some NY-themed songs on it (mixed in with other songs that were special to us)  With an image of the Central Park Boathouse on the cover, where we had our first date.
Our invitations had custom liners that were vintage NYC street maps.
The OOT bags had: an apple, a york peppermint patty, a 5th Ave Candy bar, and a B&W cookie. (and water and tylenol)

Note;  Economy Candy sells chocolate Statues of Liberty and Chocolate Taxis-great for favors, a candy bar, or OOT bags.

we are doing the same kind of thing, but with Brooklyn rather than NYC. our invites featured the brooklyn and manhattan bridges because you can see them well from our venue, our tables will be named after different brooklyn neighborhoods, our favors are coasters with the brooklyn bridge on them from Fish's Eddy. fish's eddy also has a slew of things with the NYC skyline on them that might be helpful to look at.
