Maybe I just don't get it?

I just watched Slumdog Millionaire for the first time, and honestly... I think it's a good movie, but not like, super awesome bestest.  Did I miss something with not being able to understand half of the movie?  I don't get it.
 
Or maybe it's because I've heard too much sad stuff that's happened to the young kids who were in it.

I agree its a good movie and I was glad it won the oscar. Best of all time maybe not.
I think it was big because its wasn't a huge budget and it was just a surprise hit.
I put the subtitles on for movies like that so I can understand it better. It really works. You miss so much of the dialogue sometimes without it.

Yeah, that's normally what we do also.  Unfortunately, they only have the subtitles in Italian so... that doesn't help so much. haha.

Amoro, DH and I just saw that movie for the first time last night!  (I also saw Juno for the first time too.  It was an epic day!).

I really liked the movie and the "happy" ending but in general, I wonder why the Best Picture gets that title over other movies I enjoyed.

I liked it but definitely didn't think it was the greatest thing ever.  And I certainly didn't think it deserved Best Picture.

I dont know if there is any merrit to what im saying, but I find when there are indie films about down and out people getting a break, they do really well and win all sorts of awards. Are they better than the rest, in my opinion not usually, but they always seem to have the edge.

I think the movie was great---and, if my memory serves me, it was set up well. The main character had a life story to explain having known all the answers on the show---and I just thought it was well done.

The story about the child actors was not pleasant, but I still thought the movie was great.

Yeah, I think that's true.  I don't remember what the rest of the field was last year or if I even saw any of them so I can't say what should have won, I just don't find it all that amazing.

It won best picture golden globe against benjamin button, frost/nixon, the changeling, and defiance. It won best picture oscar against benjamin button, frost/nixon, milk and the reader.

I've seen Frost/Nixon and Milk.  I thought I was up on my movies.  I guess not.

I liked it a lot.  It wasn't my favorite movie ever.  But I found it well done/written.  Same with Crash.  I really enjoyed it, but I don't need to watch it again.  IMO Gran Turino was the best movie I saw last year in that genre.  I loved Milk, but I think I would choose Slumdog over Milk to win Best Picture.

I did not like Revolutionary Road.  And the rest of the movies in the category I have not seen.

As per everyone else, I liked it but it was rather far from the most amazing film ever... I do, however, think that not being able to read the subtitles may have made some difference to your enjoyment of it.

I really liked this movie.  I loved the way the story was arranged and told.  Best movie ever?  Of course not, but I do remember after watching this movie I thought FINALLY a good, original flick. There had been a originality rut in that time period of movies so it was refreshing.  Could be why it did so well with the awards.
