Wedding styles you don't get?

Is there a style or certain elements that are popular nowadays (at least online even if you haven't seen them in person) that you don't personally understand the mass appeal of?

Re: Wedding styles you don't get?

  • really, though... candy buffets. I don't get it. I love candy.. like a lot. but I just don't get it.

  • Monograms.  They can look fine in a wedding but I don't get the craze.

  • Photo booths.

    Candy buffets.

    Flip flop baskets.

    Black BM dresses.

  • Candy bars.  Photo booths.  Tons of pick-ups in the gown's skirt.  Strapless gowns for women who are really not flattered by them.
  • Candy buffets always make me think about how germy public mint/peanut bowls are.

  • Strapless gowns
    Kodak guest books
Initials glued on the bottoms of bride's shoes.
  • Definitely agree on the candy buffet.  Who goes to a wedding and wants to load up on M&Ms?
I also don't get the obsession with strapless dresses and dresses with pick-ups.
Oh, and dye-able shoes on bridesmaids.

  • Sneakers with formal dresses (or tuxes for that matter)
    image
  • pick up skirts, strapless dresses (especially for those who don't fit them well). PINK, anything pink. Weddings don't have to be pink.
    image

  • 1 - bow ties and tux vests that match the BMs' dresses
    2 - any non-edible favor
3 - dresses that look like crumpled pieces of paper
4 - dresses with accent colors - I don't know which designer does them but they're everywhere
  • ... note to self: do not post wedding pictures showing me in my strapless dress with pickups...
    image
  • -Dresses with lots and lots and lots of pickups
    -Candy buffets
    -Bare feet
    -Shuttles
    -Colored "crinny" (hate that word)
    -Personalized napkins
    -Koozies as favors
-Favors in general. Yes, we did them, but it cost us $27.50 for favors for over 200 people. Otherwise I wouldn't have dome them.
-Paying over $5,000 for a photographer
    -Cakes as favors
-Paying over $1000 for your dress
-OOT baskets that include water bottles and disposable cameras
    -Over-tanning before the wedding
    -Tiaras

    I'm sure there's more.

  • Candy buffets
    STDs
Flip flops or sneakers for the bride
    Flip flop baskets
    Strapless gowns for larger women
    Favors (of any kind)
  • Pick-up skirts.
BMs matching from their dresses to their shoes, nail polish, hairstyles, underwear, etc.
    Awkward DJs.
Bridal portraits done days before or days after the wedding. You really didn't get enough pictures the day of?
    Damask, especially colored damask.
Tulle strung between pews during a ceremony
    Tulle anywhere.
Flower girls in a mini copy of the bride's dress.
    Personal attendants.
    Tiaras.
    Rhinestones.
GM vests that match the BM dresses like prom.
    Disposable cameras on guest tables.
Personalized B&G + wedding date cameras, water bottles, candy bars, M&Ms, t-shirts, underwear, flip flops, matchbooks... Basically the entire Knot shop.

    Wow, I'm grumpy today.
  • It's not a style but I do not get engagement pictures.  It seems so 1955 to me.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • I don't understand why people have an aversion to black BM dresses.

STDs are something I just don't get. They're sent more often than necessary.

I've felt like this all day. Today I keep feeling the need to nit-pick or something.
  • Sneakers with tuxes.
"Brides" swag.  Like, the flip flops and hoodie and T-shirts and underpants that say "Bride".
    Chiavari chairs.
    Monogrammed everything.
The "black and pink" color scheme.

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image

  • Mermaid dresses, yes please look at the width of my booty.

I love the koozies as favors. Mostly because in the summer we have tOObing, which is where you float down a river and drink beer. You can never have too many koozies.

I think corset back dresses are ugly (well, from the back). I'm well aware I'm the only person in the world who feels this way. I'm just really not into lacing up a formal dress like a boot and can't believe everyone else thinks they are so great.

Flip flops as wedding wear. A $2000 gown, the most formal thing most will wear in their lifetime, and people want to pair it with... rubber shower shoes? I do. not. get. it.

Another ditto.  I won't be AWing any wedding photos on the Knot after I get married for fear of being criticized for my dress with color accents.

I also don't like jumping pictures.  That's my trendy I don't get it.  There are many other things I dislike about weddings, but they are more traditional.

You are not the only one.  I also dislike corset backs.  It looks trashy imo.  My sister had one and I had to bite my tongue when she asked me what I thought of it.
  • So glad the majority feels this way about pick ups..I see them EVERYWHERE so I thought I was the only one who didn't care for  them.

Also ditto to the corset back on dresses. I don't know why, but I just don't care for it. It makes me feel like I'm looking at an undergarment.

  • I HATE jumping pictures.  Being bigger chested, I'm always afraid I'm going to fly out of the dress, or land funny and break my ankle, or whatever.  It sucks.

    Pick up skirts.
Strapless dresses (they more irritate me because I'm not comfortable going strapless, and it made me decide not to get a dress at 3 different places... they had no white gowns with straps... I mean really?  They had ivory, but I'm not an ivory girl.  I want to see white!)
Bridal Swag - I'm not going to wear it again!
Colored accents - mostly if they are super bold.  White with bright red? Not so much here.
    Feathers.
  • Black, white and red color schemes.  I just think of prom when I hear someone is planning on using those colors.

    Dresses with pick-ups.

Dressing little girls like mini brides.

You described me to a tee.  I had a corset dress and I ended up with flip-flops.

I didn't start out that way.  I had a nice pair of 3 inch heels. It rained so much I slipped on the dance floor in the heels (wedding was under a tent).  I do not wear heels normally, actually I'm in barefeet most of the day.  For my safety I switched to my flops. (I had the flops because I didn't want to ruin my shoes getting to the venue).

I like my corset better than most dresses I see (mine was thin, I'm not a fan of the wide ribbon and wide opening).  But I get why people do not like them.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
