My significant other and I are attending a destination wedding in Aruba this Spring. The bride & groom have very expensive taste and the wedding is at a 5 star resort, which is out of our budget. We are staying at a hotel nearby but the trip will still set us back about $2,000+. I recently checked their wedding registry and they have registered at Restoration Hardware only. The cheapest thing on their registry is about $250 and goes up to $6,000.
The wedding is on a Saturday, where a reception will take place after the ceremony and the Friday before, all guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner. The groom and my FI used to be close co-workers but over the past few years their closeness has waned. I'm not close to either.
Does anyone know the etiquette about providing a gift to the bride and groom for a destination wedding? If a gift is required, does anyone know what an appropriate dollar amount to spend would be?
