Groom's Wedding Band

We just started looking for wedding bands for FI.  He wants something other then a traditional gold or silver ring... actually we like the black or dark silver rings that seem to be becoming popular.  Our jeweler can make/order pretty much anything that we want, just need to find the right look.  Anyone have suggestions or maybe websites that we could look into to get some better ideas?

We have been looking at the Tungsten and Titanium so far...

Sorry I can't help..but I just had to share that FI also didn't want a traditional gold or silver band. I actually found a Harley Davidson band at a Harley dealer outside of Chicago (Crete) that was closing a few months ago and we got a % off. We got it early, but couldnt pass up the sale. His is Titanium and its really nice and FI really likes it.

Maybe try even Amazon or Blue Nile?

I'm getting a tungsten with carbon fiber inlay, it's heavy, doesn't scratch and doesn't look like a 'plain ol' wedding band.

My FI"s is also tungsten.  The jeweler (jareds) claimed it could be run over with a truck and withstand.  I told him not to test it.

I just bought a Tungsten ring from Overstock.com, but he wants it a little more shiny so I'm returning it and getting a different one from there.  You can get rings off Ebay etc. but I like with Overstock you don't have to deal with worrying about seller reviews etc.

If you are going the Tungsten route I wouldn't get in a jewelry store, you'll pay triple the price sometimes over getting it online.  I'm sure jewelry stores are not happy that Tungsten is getting so popular, taking away a lot of their white gold business!

Well, it's a very hard metal, so it's extremely scratch resitent, but the good thing is that you can shatter tungsten rings if you put them under enough pressure.  Places trying to upsell customers on something more expensive than tungsten will often say something like well if you go to the ER they won't be able to cut it off and you could lose a finger.  In reality, you can shatter a tungsten ring with a pair of pliers, that's how they do it at the ER:

My FI was originally going to go with Titanium because it's "very cool and manly looking", but we were advised against it because if there is ever an accident involving Fi's hands(which is likely, he works with nuclear plants), titanium can't be cut off, they would have to cut off your finger to have it taken off. So we found the exact same design FI wanted but in white gold instead. They looked the exact same, except  of course the white gold cost a lot more. But I told him, I'd rather spend the money than risk his finger! Here's what it looks like:

DH got a palladium ring from Robbins Bros, because my e-ring is palladium and he wanted them to match.  I've heard of rings made from meteorite, which are awesome but really expensive.

www.titaniumkay.com and www.tungstenworld.com  are both websites I've looked at.  I ended up ordering one from tungstenworld and returning, then ordered a second from titanium kay.  Lots of options on either site and good customer service.

FI chose a Titanium ring. He really loved the color and his biggest pet peeve is that the other ones are so thick. Like he couldn't put his fingers together with the other ones on. He liked the titanium since it felt lighter and had a thinner width to it. I hope they wouldn't have to cut his fingers off, I was under the impression that is was just ceramic that could not be cut off. Hmm.. should look in to that but good thing he is a computer nerd so no real risk of him hurting himself

My mom works in an ER and they have special saws/tools to cut the actual rings (titanium & tungsten) off without having to cut off appendages!

Ironically... FI broke his finger bowling when we first started dating and had to have a ring cut off because of his finger swelling.  I think it was just gold or something of that sort... but he is prone to breaking fingers!

Something else to consider if you are going the Titanium/Tungsten route is that they cannot be resized.  Reputable dealers and jewelers offer lifetime replacement of the ring.  IE they give you a new one in the correct size and you turn in your old one.  Be sure to check wherever you are purchasing one.
FI picked out a ring in white gold on accident, but I know we can resize it in the future and he is worth precious metal
