I'm curious about your thoughts

On swine flu in the pig in Minnesota. Have you heard anything about it? I just saw a ticker last night on the TV but didn't hear what the news was saying so I looked it up. Of course they are saying it could combine to make different strain of the virus - either worse or not. will you still eat pork? We're having pork chops tonight. Pork is still safe to eat, but do you think people will stop buying it?

Ha, one of our friends grew up on a pig farm in Minnesota (and had her wedding there a few months ago!), and she sent out this email to us in response to that news:"don't be alarmed.  the pigs apparently contracted h1n1 from humans.  I can't stress this enough, people: DO NOT EAT PEOPLE, EAT PORK.   it's safer."

LOL. I'm really wondering what it's going to do to pork sales and how it's going to affect things. I think people are going to go a little nuts and stop buying and eating pork but who knows. I hope not, but the media can do lots of things. Hopefully they handle it right and stress that it's OK to eat pork still

I didn't hear about this yet (it seems like every time I turn on the news they're talking about freaking balloon boy so I turn it off).  I can't imagine life without eating the magical animal that is a pig...bacon, ham, pork chops all on the same animal lol.  If the industry does see a drop off it's only because people aren't smart enough to realize that they can't catch the flu from it.

As a committed vegetarian and environmentalist, I have to say that I wouldn't mind seeing people decide to eat less pork for any reason, even a stupid one :)

I'm with pp, I can't live without bacon.  If they say it's still safe to eat, I will probably eat it.

Yes, I'll still eat pork. Honestly, I am just sick of hearing about swine flu- I'm not even worried about it. I think we'll continue to hear about it through the winter, but I don't think pork sales will be greatly affected. At least, I hope people are smarter than that.

We don't eat much pork, but it won't affect our habits.  I have to admit cluelessness - what's a balloon boy?

Oh - I definitely think people will stop buying it.  There are a lot of idiots in the world.  I'll keep eating it - I love pork, ham, bacon.  It's the other white meat!! :)

Brivb, you didn't hear about the boy flying in a balloon that looked like a UFO? It happened last week. http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/18/colorado.balloon.investigation/index.html

We don't eat much pork either so it doesn't really matter much for us.  If we feel like having pork, it certainly won't stop us.

I'm with you Candice, I could give up pork chops...I could almost give up ham...but there is no way I could ever give up bacon!Bri, there was some hoax where CNN was covering a weather balloon that they believed a little boy was in...it's been on the news anytime I watch and it's so annoying and they're just giving his crazy dad the publicity he wanted in the first place.

Won't affect us eating pork in the slightest because that's not the way the flu works. But, I bet there will be a lot of people who will stop eating pork once the media sensationalizes it. We had pork chop sandwiches for dinner last night, and they were fantastic.

wow, I really need to leave the law library once in awhile.  I clearly missed this!  Wonder what the parents thought they'd gain from this once authorities realized it was a hoax
