When to dress shop

Hey ladies!!!

When are you girls going to start dress shopping?  I am trying to lose weight before going shopping, but I am graduating college early May.  My sister lives in CA and can only come out once a year (and this is the once a year).  Is it weird going shopping this early and what if I'm not the weight I want...

Any advice would be fantastic :) hope you all are having a wonderful hump day!!!

I personally am not dress shopping until around August. I also want to lose a little bit of weight before I try on dresses. If you want to go shopping in May when your sister comes in, I dont think thats too early at all. Thats only a tiny bit over a year in advance, and most things I have read recommend going about 10 months in advance. I guess it just depends on how much weight you want to loose, but most of the time dresses can be taken in a good amount. Let us know what you decide to do!

I already have my dress, but that was because FI and I were going to get marrid June 2, 2012.  However, we decided last month that it would be financially better for us to wait until next June.  I went dress shopping in July last year, so that would have been about 11 months out.  I don't think May is too early for you to go, especially when it's important to you to have your sister there.

If you are concerned about the dress, then be sure you get a corset back, so should you lose weight then it should still fit fairly well.  I am one of the weird pear-shaped people that when I lose/gain weight, it only happens in my butt and legs and a small bit just under the belly button.  So if I lose 20 lbs my top half will be the same anyways (like it was 20lbs ago haha)

I am planning on going dress shopping in March or April... I'm super picky and have a very specific idea of what I want to wear but I think I might have a hard time finding it, so I'm going to give myself a little bit of leeway. I don't think May is too early at all, especially if you have to order the dress - sometimes they can take 9 months to come in, which would give you 4 months to get alterations done.

    Thank you girls!!

I just get so nervous that I'm going to lose a ton of weight after getting my dress (but realisticly that won't happen.  If anything it will just be toning by then).  You girls make me feel so much better.

It is so important that my sister is there since I was there for hers :)

If I had to, I would totally plan dress shopping around my sister too!  Luckily, she lives pretty close to me :)  I'd agree that it's not too early yet.  I'm probably going to try to hold off until summer (to save a bit more money), but if I get the itch, I might go earlier!

Um I am looking at different places now but I won't seriously look until this fall. I want something really simple so alteration would be less time consuming for me than others so I have a lot of waiting room

I'm going in March, although I originally planned to wait til August so that the newer collections will be out. I knew it would either have to be March-April, or August, because I will be prepping for the Bar exam all summer so that eliminates those months. I feel like it is a little soon, but honestly I just got so excited looking at Trunk Show schedules that I just decided to book 2 appointments for when my sister (MOH) will be home on spring break in March. We can't all be practical all the time, I guess  :)  I do worry that since I know it is early I won't want to commit to something, but I try to console myself by saying I'll only have my dress about 4 months longer than I originally would have, so in the long run its not a huge difference. Good luck!
