Destination Wedding ---> Reception Back Home

We are from PA and getting married down at the beach. We are planning to have a casual reception/party when we get back home. Is this wrong?? Anyone done this before?? We are NOT doing this to receive gifts so I do not want to make it about that, just to celebrate with everyone. Any ideas/suggestions!?

Will you have guests at your ceremony? Are planning anything for them following your ceremony (cake and punch? Coffee and biscuits? A light lunch?)
  • IWe are having our immediate family at our wedding. We are all going to dinner after the ceremony. So I wouldn't call it a reception back home - it would just be a party... but a big party!

[QUOTE]We need more information.  Are you having any guests at your ceremony?  Is this celebration at home going to be on the same day as your wedding? A wedding reception takes place on the day of the wedding.  If it is on any other day, it is simply a party to celebrate your marriage, not a wedding reception. If you have any guests at your ceremony, you MUST provide refreshments.  This is your wedding reception.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to have an at-home reception. I just attended a destination wedding last summer as well as the at-home reception afterwards and it was a blast! It was a casual outdoor pig-roast, and the couple served beer, wine, and the signature drink from the resort in Punta Cana where their wedding took place, which was a nice touch. Instead of a DJ, they just had their ipod playing from a sound system. They also had a wide-screen playing a slideshow with pictures from their wedding, which was nice.

Near the end of the evening, everyone released floating lanterns with well-wishes for the couple written on them. It was very sweet.

    Good luck planning yours!
