Scouting Trip & Mix

Hi all,

I'm very new here, my fiance and I got engaged at the end of February and are planning a March 2014 wedding.

We have booked a trip to go view places at the end of May but there are still a ton of questions I have before I want to narrow it down!

First, I absolutely LOVE the idea of doing the wedding at Mix but I am having trouble contacting people! Anyone know a good way to contact the staff there? Also any ideas on pricing would be helpful too!!

Also, we are going to have 60-75 people, what other places should I be looking at for the ceremony and the reception?

There are so many options! I feel overwhelmed Tongue Out

  • do you prefer indoor or outdoor?

  • I'm good with either. If it is indoors I would really like a good view of the strip.

I want to avoid doing any wedding salons/chapels though for the ceremony so outdoor might be the best option for the ceremony with an indoor location for the reception.

Unfortunately I've recently learned that all of the former staff that I knew from Mix are no longer there; the GM who was the key person in pulling off our wedding and reception is not even in the restaurant business anymore.  I keep in touch with a bunch of the servers too and they've all changed jobs as well whether it be from graduating college, new opportunities, etc.  I didn't get the feel that anyone left for negative reasons, just positive personal reasons.

We're going to be having dinner there in three weeks and I plan to meet the new manager to gauge how much interest they have in weddings now, etc. so I might be able to provide more useful information after that.

  • Thanks so much for the insight Vegasgroom.

I finally heard back from Mix and the restaurant buy-out is WAY out of our budget so we aren't even considering it anymore :(

They did say they could accomodate us on the balcony but 65 people on a balcony, does that seem tight? Is there balcony huge?

We're going to keep it on the list for the scouting trip but it might not work out.
  • PM me your email address and I'll send you some balcony pics from our wedding; we used the lounge and its balcony during our cocktail hour while they converted the restaurant from wedding setup back into reception setup.

  • Contact the Wedding chapel coordinators and ask for a brochure on all possibilities at Mandalay Bay including Mix. They were very helpful with any information and were prompt with information and who to contact for more info and had  wedding & reception packages at different restaurants and locations on the property.

Actually I don't recommend this.  If you don't plan to use the chapel, or even if you do, the group dining and Mix staff seem to be a lot more helpful when it doesn't involve the chapel folks; likely because there's some big behind the scenes competition for revenue.  The more parties that have a hand in the cookie jar, the less service I feel like you get.

It was more of a starting point for her to get information who to contact in group dinning or restaurants etc. That's how I got in touch with Border Grill and i've worked with them directly not the chapel. They have been a great help so far so I understood who i needed to contact for a cake vs. in room dinning and explained alot. I was directed to different departments for each.

Not sure what your budget is, but you might want to check out the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay.  It is a private restaurant operated by House of Blues and it's on a high floor at MB.  The woman I spoke to there was awesome and they were willing to work with our budget for 100 guests.  They have an amazing deck that overlooks the the strip.  I've heard of people doing $5000 receptions out on the deck (cocktail style, weekday).  We were given a quote of $16,500 for a Saturday night buy out in August (although this was over a year ago).  But she seemed willing to work with our budget and the space was pretty cool.  Our guest list grew so we wouldn't have fit in the space.
