Sandals

I keep hearing bad things about Sandals resorts even though the pictures are gorgeous.  Anyone have a good/bad experience there?
Thanks!

Re: Sandals

  • Oh no I hope there aren't many bad experiences. I just booked my honeymoon at the Sandals Grande St. Lucia. We're staying in the Rondovals and I've only heard good things about them so I'm curious to see what anyone else says.

  • I went to La Toc in St Lucia last year.  It was amazing.  I have pics and a review in my bio.  I also know 4 other people who have stayed at Sandals and they all had a wonderful experience.

Reviews and pics from three different Sandals ( St. Lucia, Jamaica and Antigua) in the link above my siggy pic. Sandals seems to be a love or hate kinda thing I think. The key is to get off the resort and actually experience the island. Dh and I love them and can't wait to go back to the Grande in St. Lucia this coming March! HTH
  • We went to Sandals Montego Bay a few years ago and absolutely loved it.  I agree with PP, there's definitely a love/hate thing for them.  We would absolutely stay at a Sandals again, no question.

  • Stayed at Sandals Grande for my honeymoon and would never stay at another sandals in my life. The resort needs A LOT of updating and is just not worth the money you pay. Just my opinion. If i am paying 5,000 or more for a vacation, i expect a lot more than what i got there...Not sure where you are going but i have stayed at Iberostar all adults resorts and Secrets and in my opinion, they are better. I would say check out trip advisor to help you make a decision

St Lucia got hit by a MAJOR hurricane last year.  We went a month after it happened.  They were doing some repairs and painting from the damage, but the service was not lacking at all.  The resorts in St Lucia have a very beachy villa type feel to them, so if you are looking for some kind of spectacular room, they are not really what you want.  However, what you are paying for is the all inclusive, top notch service that you get there.  There is so much to do, lots of privacy, and no pressure.

If you take the cheapest route possible with Sandals (basic room right on the main part of the resort, cheapest package, etc) then you will probably not be blown away.  However, if you pay a little extra for an upgraded room or even butler service, then you will be happy.  At least that is my take on it.

If you are looking to stretch your money, Mexico would probably be a better option than the Caribbean. I have been to the Caribbean a few times and between airfare, hotel, meals and drinks, 5K doesnt get you far at all. Especially for 2 people.

  • To me Sandals is NOT worth the extra money. It's a couple thousand dollars more than other AI's and the reviews are mixed and extras cost money. It's all in a name.

We're doing Couples Resorts. All excursions are INCLUDED and it's about 2K cheaper than a BASIC Sandals. Why would you do a Sandals? It just doesn't make sense to me.

  • We went to Sandals Grande Riveria in Jamaica in September/ October and had an amazing time!! They were finishing with renovations so everything was new. The place we stayed was beautiful and we had so much fun. It's all what you make of it.

  • We paid way more than 5000 for the sandals grande and i have stayed at other places for less than 5000 and received better service and had a much better experience than i did at the Sandals...I have traveled to literally every single Caribbean country and would not return to a sandals...Just my opinion

  • I have been worried. We booked a butler swim up suite at the grande st lucia. We wanted a rondoval but they were all booked. Is it really bad. I just need a clean room and a nice beach and im happy
  • We did Sandals Antigua with butler service and one of the villas with private plunge pool and spa; it was awesome.  I'd go with St Lucia if I had to do it again but no complaints about Sandals other than yeah, it was pricey.
