"Local" Honeymoon Suggestions?

Hi! :)

We are trying to brainstorm for our June honeymoon and have hit a bit of a mental road block.  We aren't really "beach" or "tropical" people, so we didn't want to do the usual Resort or cruise.  We'd actually like to stay "local" (as in a 5-6 hour drive at the most) and take a road trip somewhere.  We are probably more of the adventure/hiking type of couple...so do have any suggestions?

We thought Hocking Hills, but we've been there so many times already and would like something new and different.  Does anyone know of some good spots that might be a little more unique for a HM location?

Thank You :)

If you're ok with a 7 hour drive then check out Silver Lake in Michigan. There's hiking, awesome sand dunes and it sits on Lake Michigan, which looks like an ocean, it's so pretty. We  went camping there this past summer but there's hitels too if that's more of what you're looking for.

    I agree! go Pure Michigan.
There are a lot of cute cities on Lake Michigan, which isn't too far.
South Haven, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Holland.
    I'm from Michigan so I'm a little biased. :)

I agree with PPs--northern Michigan is very beautiful.

If you want something a bit closer the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in NE Ohio is very beautiful and has lots of hiking spots. Plus I'm sure there are some great B&Bs in the area where you could stay.

I was going to suggest Michigan too (Traverse City is great, I hear), but another close option would be Niagra Falls.  It is only about 6 hours from here and has some really romantic spots as well as outdoor activities.

I agree with Michigan. There have a lot of really cute places. Try Glen Arbour (on Glen Lake) at the national forest and there are a lot of places to explore (make sure you float down Platt River). That is where I would go if it wasn't December. It is easy and inexpensive to rent a house. I woud get one on Platt Lake or Glen Lake.

Chicago, I went there a few summers ago, a lot to do there, and hotels are pretty cheap if you go a little bit outside, and then you can ride a train into town, which was cheap too.

Pittsburgh, the city is so pretty, and there are a lot of museums and things to do there,

This summer we went to Lake Cumberland with a group of friends and it was a lot of fun, we rented a large house, 6 bedrooms for only 1700 for the week, so it is pretty cheap, the area is really nice, and there is a state park with lots of trains and the marina. No alcohol though, you have to bring your own.

We're going to Gatlinburg, TN! We're renting a cabin for a week for a great price and we plan on doing some ziplining, eating and museum/aquarium viewing =)  We aren't beachy people either so it'll be perfect!

Plus, since we're not paying an arm and a leg, we won't feel guilty if we don't actually leave the cabin ;)

Lake Norris or Lake Cumberland. Rent a houe boat, grab a jet ski, etc. Hit Hocking Hills on the way down for a zip line. No reason not to stay mobile and go to a lot of places.

Also, I'm a huge fan of D.C. Lots and lots to do there, and a lot of it is free!

not too far away is laurel caverns in ohiopyle in pa. you can go spelunking, hike, and there is an amazing historic hotel there called the summit inn. you can get a package for adventure, history or some art/deco thing where you tour falling water. its really an amazing place. just food for thought.
